Default Entering Corporate America... advice please

OK so this company named GAITS (Global Analytic Information Technology Services) sends me an email saying that they saw my resume and would like to consider me for an open position in either St. Louis, MO, Bethesda, VA, or at the Washington Naval Yard in DC. I told them I was interested in either of the openings at Bethesda or DC, along with my salary requirements. Right now they are verifying my security clearance and will contact me again early next week. The HR recruiter asked me today if I would be available within two weeks and I told them yes.

Now this is what I am unsure of right now. I'm currently living in Alabama with family. If they want me to come in for an in-person interview, in this type of situation, is it standard for the hiring company to pay for my travel expenses? Is this something that I should ask them about if they don't just offer it? Also, if I do end up getting this job, does the hiring company usually pay for moving expenses?

Sorry if these sound like dumb questions but I have no experience in this kind of stuff. I got out of the Air Force recently so now I'm trying to make the transition to the corporate world but I'm kinda lost. Thanks.

If they ask you to come for an interview, it is reasonable to expect them to pay your way (transportation, meals, lodging). The company I work for does this. They also pay relocation expenses if you're hired. Ask the HR person to be sure, I'm sure they get asked all the time.

Yeah i agree. If companies ask you to come for interview, they usually pay for the travel expenses and lodging. As far as moving expenses, that is something you negotiate with them. Some will just offer you sign up bonus to cover moving expenses, others will flat out pay it or give you budget (probably around $1500), or some will say it is not in their policy.

Now be sure to calculate living expenses to make sure you are getting good salary. I make great money for Texas, but if I move to cali or NY, it would be like taking 40% paycut.

If the company has the interest in you they will pay for your expenses. If they do not pay then it is not worth your time to pursue. You have to remember that it works both ways...you are interviewing them as well: To see if they fit your interests. GOODLUCK!

I worked at a consultant company, they didnt pay for you to move your stuff, just you. they gave air fare, and like 3 months rent for you to find your own place. Also some cash up front, until you receive your first check.

I dont know about family, since I dont have any.
