I tend to avoid situations like that but changing the way I superset bi's and tri's. If I'm going to do preacher curls for bi's then I wil bring some dumbells over and do kickbacks right there at the curl bench. If I want to do tricep press downs I'll do biceps on the cable machine too. That way I stay in the same area.
But even if I did it the other way I wouldn't put up with someone getting on my bench if my towel is there. If you're in my seat.....you're moving....period. |

the thing that really gets my goat are the guys who leave weights out when they're finished. theres 2 muppets who go to the gym on a sunday evening who think nothing of leaving 6 sets of dumbells out. usually a few loud sarcastic comments do the trick, but guys in there 30's shouldn't have to be told to put stuff away

I am with Traz, just set-up my smith machine. My new smith machine allows 610 pounds of weight and user can weight 300 on the bench I have, perfect for a long time.
Have free weights, and a Sears weight machine. To bad leg press is only 248 pounds maximum on the Sears machine, I do them one legged. |

Common weightroom etiquette is allowing someone to work in with you if they need to use the machine you are on. Its not a big deal, and it gives you a nice rest period in between sets, and saves everyone time in the long run (eventually you need to work in with someone, might as well pay it forward). The problem is, the people at the fitness center usually have their new years resolutions and so they go on the treadmill or bike for an hour. But eventually they make their way over to the machines. They do a set, sit there for 5 minutes, do another set, etc. Its very annoying. I usually leave the machine in between sets so i can work another muscle. Im ashamed to say i have begun sitting on my machines because i know if i get up and someone else takes it, theres no hope of me getting it back, and less hope of being able to work in with them. Just today my friend and i wanted to use the flat bench. Two guys were using it (and doing very little weight, which always makes me chuckle, cause im a small guy so its not often people lift so much less than me). We asked if we could work in with them, and they were dumbfounded by this amazing concept. I could see it on their faces that they had never been asked that question before. Another thing that REALLY bugs me about nubs in the weightroom, they never put back their weights, and if they do, they dont put them back properly. I cant count the number of times ive come to a curling bar with a dozen weights on it with clips on the sides, and no one is within a mile of it. I do a complete set of another workout and still nothing. Its around this time i realize no one is coming back for it. By the end of my workout its usually still there, and as a good member i put the weights away. My friend and i also have a habit of organizing the weights for the fitness center. Not because we are picky, but because we HAVE to. Its a simple concept, each rack is labeled as to what amount of weight is supposed to go there. For example, when the number 45 appears, place the 45 pound plates there. But every other time we go to the weightroom, there are 35's buried under 45's, a bench or squat missing all of its 10's, and 25 pound plates randomly strewn across various other racks. It annoys me that so many people have total disregard for other people who want to use the weights after them that must now go on a wild goose chase to find the proper weights, all because they cant match up 2 numbers. God ive been wanting to unleash that rant for weeks now, but my friend was the only one who could relate to it.

Hell letting people work in is fun. I was squatting at the same place yesterday, where there is only one rack suited to squats/push presses/ect and a guy asked if he could work in, turns out he lifted for a long while in India, until he moved over here for school and decided to take up lifting again. Twas good times. Now if only the gym bunnies would ask to work in I have more funny stories then anything. There was this one kid who had kind of been shadowing me in the gym (God knows why, I'm not big) and asked to work in for squats. He tried the weight I was doing, and only got the reps out by going down 3-4 inches and back up. It was one of those things where you can almost hear his knees screaming in pain, but it's just too awkward to go 'dude, you suck at squats'. There was one time, I swear 2 kids had at least 6 pairs of dumbells out, ranging from 15lbs up to 50lbs. I couldn't even tell what they were using them for, because they never lifted them! Just stood by them. Down with fitness centers... I need to find one of those hole in the wall gyms down here where all the weights are rusted and 20 years old, and the guys that lift their eat babies for the PWO meal. Thats hardcore.
