Stay away from them.. they are the tools of an evil empire.

Well actually, I'd like one, but no bank in thier right mind will agree to give me one.... at least for another 3 or 4 years.

how old are you?? do you know what your credit score is??? if this is your first one, i would assume that you really dont have much credit at all. if that is the case, you will be lucky to get a card with a $500 limit, yes lucky.

if you dont have good credit (NO CREDIT IS BAD CREDIT) than a good company which is well-known for giving beginners a good card is CapitalOne. you can apply for one on-line at www.capitalone.com

good luck, answer some of my questions so others might have some better advice based on your stats...

1000 dollar limit is pretty easy assuming you have a regular job, and no obvioius bad credit history. Everyone I know all got there first credit card in college... they use to set up a booth not far from the main doors, around the start of each year to sign up all the new arrivals each year.

Just go to your bank.. the same one you have been dealing with all your life.. if you have a job, I'm sure they won't have a problem approving you... and if you only get 500, you can ask to have that bumped up pretty quickly over the phone. As long as you make payments regularly, they will actually want to give you more credit, and hope that your a sucker that likes to carry a large balance. Thats how they make the big bucks. There only concern is that you make enough to continue the payments.

all i have to say is i have seen way to many people is serious credit card debt. be smart with your money, and only use your credit card if you already have the money, just not on hand. I have chosen to actually use my credit card, and put away my cash specifically to pay my credit cards, and have always made my payments on time. My credit score is not too bad for 19 yrs. (about 650). I have had it planned that i can continuously build my credit score so when the time comes, i can get into a house and a car. Debt sucks, stay out of debt. Credit cards can be the biggest stress in your life. be smart.

I totally agree with this!! I just refinanced my house to pay off 20,000.00 in credit card debt!!! Yes I spent the money it was my fault, all I'm saying is its real easy to charge it when you only have to pay a little back at a time but it adds up quick.

Get a Visa of Mastercard, take the limit they give you. Then be a "scab", the credit card companies name for people who always keep no balance on their credit card by paying every month the ENTIRE balance! You never get in trouble that way, always have enough cash every month to pay your entire credit card bill off, and yea the credit card companies hate you for it.

Get one that gives cashback when you use it a gas station. Then just use it for gas and pay it off every month. Make your credit work for you!

My favorite credit card company is Discover.

Whatever you do, stay away from any cards by CitiBank!!!!!!
They are horrible and never want to work with you if you need help.

we have a citibank card and I forgot a payment...they are jerks...I just forgot, we pay them more than we should anyway...so they charged us all these late fees and put the interest back on it. It was a 0% APR transfer...so my husband just called and told them take the late charges off and the interest or we'll just close the account. They obeyed. We don't really even carry a balance on our cards...well we do charge on it for convenience, but then try to pay it off every month.

if you are bad with money, you will get in trouble with anything...cash, credit, etc.....the problem lies with the person, not the method of payment.
