Is it water retention?
Whenever I workout intensely, the next day I can be up anywhere from 1-3 lbs. It is so annoying, especially since I am trying to lose 1.5 lbs a week in this contest at work, so now I schedule my workouts all around the weekly weigh in day. I can't workout on Tues or Wed because weigh in is Thursday and historically I go up after an intense workout...it is so annoying. Did any of you watch the biggest loser show on tv...how in the world did they drop so much weight and they were working out soooo much?...I gain the day after I work my ass off like that...it is only temporary I know, but it still pisses me off. Does this happen to y'all? Also last week I lost 7 lbs...this must be mostly water....all I did was cut cream out of my coffee and work out less...wtf? don't pick your nose on BB4U girl... lol,
I stepped on a scale on 4/12/07 and was 156 pounds. Over the last few weeks I have lost alot of inches and went down a size, so I was under the assumption that I lost about 10 pounds, especially since people say I look like I lost 15, haha! I weighed myself this past Tuesday @ the gym and am 153. I literally fit into my 8's with a little room the first time I weighed myself this month and now the 6's are loose. GRRRR I am not shopping for anymore pants till June. I don't think I will step on a scale anymore, just go by the changes in my body. My workouts have been very intense also 5 days a week and this past week have only gotten cardio in once. Everyone's body is different and reacts differently to exercise and diet. Biggest Loser.. I like that show! But can't tell you the last time I sat on the couch to watch TV. I have been running around like a bat out of hell, so no TV time. I don't know about you, but I can't live without cream in my coffee! Let me get back to sipping on that coffee.

my wife wanted a little "extra" motivation to lose some weight, scared she would get bored with the diet stuff. What motivates people more than anything... MONEY!! I told her I would give her $10 cash per pound lost. Pay off date is Auguest 23. But if she gains....she has to pay me..hahahaha.
Hanna, something is wrong here. When are you weighing, and what do your meals look like?

I lose weight, just not the day after I workout. Say I am down 3 lbs, then I workout that night, the next day it will be 2 lbs and not 3. So the net result is downward, but just the day to day fluctuations that irritate me because this contest involves money and i don't like losing. I guess I should stop weighing every day. I'm not worried about it anymore.

After a hard workout, your body starts to prepare for the next one, and stores more glycogen. When the body stores more glycogen, it also stores more water (I think you need 3-4x’s the amount of water to store 1 molecule of glycogen.). The ‘weight gain’ would be water weight, but it would decrease as your body uses up glycogen stores.
I remember Boyd wrote an article about ATP pathways, check that out and have a look at this: Carbohydrates - Chemical structure, Simple carbohydrates, Complex carbohydrates, Digestion and absorption, Glycolysis, Recommended intake scroll down to Glycolysis. Good luck in your competition! |
