With all due respect, that is just not true though bro, a woman has a completely different chemical make-up and without the help of testosterone or some sort anabolic steroids, they just wont get big like guys no matter how they train.

I am in the category that thinks men and woman need to train in similiar fashions, but I do agree that a woman should not train her neck or traps.
I have come to know plenty of woman who train heavy and they do not look manly or have huge muscles, but they do look solid, but still very feminine

Train heavy, get big like a man.....It's a myth!

Hawkwind, I know you have been around the block, I respect and believe what you say. I was not trying to say that women can't or shouldn't use the same training methods as men, just that a lot of women aren't trying to put on huge muscle like guys, and therefore don't want to train like guys in most ways. I am not talking about dedication or effort or anything like that, I know there are a ton of girls that go in and bust ass harder than a lot of guys, just strictly a sets/reps/amount of weight kinda thing.
Glad you clarified that. I run into way too many men that will chat with me in person and say things like, "Oh you can't possibly lift heavy. You don't look butch!"

Back when I was training at a gym in a very upscale area the men there were pretty freaked out to see me training in the free weight section with my son. And spotting him without problem. I got a bit weary of some of the sneers and attitude I encountered.

Not every woman wants to bring up her physique to be more athletic and muscular ... and those that do aspire for more shouldn't be thwarted in their endeavors.

I too am getting my GF into lifting a bit, although she is a bit hesitant. She is going to join a aerobic/dance class at her gym. She wants to burn fat off, which is her main problem and tone. How much weight should she be lifting? I go heavy for myself so should what she lifts be enough to be a challenge? How many reps?
Thanks!
