Thanks for that link. Very informative.

One paragraph made me LOL for some reason:

The average woman (that's you) cannot achieve a masculine monster look simply through strength training. You're not going to wake up after a workout and be huge. You don't believe me? OK, then, try to get huge. Just try. And see how far you get.

Lmao! That was funny. It's taken two years of training to get back to half of what I had before I had those three surgeries and then was sick with lyme disease.

Now I'm cracking up at your 'before' and 'after' pics being right under that quote sweetie! You look so fabulous! But all of us here know just how much hard work you have put in and that it certainly didn't happen overnight.

And neither one of us looks like a monster!

I think what they mean by that comment is that a woman might not be able to achieve the "masculine monster look" like the woman in the picture below by weight training 'alone'. (as in w/o the use of AAS)

There might be a few lucky girls with great genetics that can build like that naturally.

Pammie you are doing a great job!! I'm scared of those guns! LoL

And Meera WOW...lookin FABULOUS!

Great work girls!

Absolutely! I got a chuckle out of it...and I'm sure Meera did too as you wouldn't believe how often I tell other women, "you won't get bulky and look like a man...really!" I tell women all the time. "Look at me. I've trained most of my adult life and I certainly do not look like a man!"

Although, I will say I have to tell women that see me face to face that genetically I had a broad back to begin with and my arms were large to begin with also. I usually have them check out pics of some of the great fitness ladies like Mia Finnegan so they can see for themselves that lifting heavy is not going to leave them masculine looking.

I gotta say....it is absolutely wonderful to have so many new women that understand training join BB4U. Totally rocks!

Totally agree with you Hawkwind.

Funny today some guy asked me "who is the man in your avatar?"

LoL

I said that is ME flexing! and the results of training hard and eating right. I thanked him and took it as a compliment.

Anyways, it's hard to tell from a tiny avatar...I'd have to turn around and prove I'm a girl but, he'll just have to take my word for it. haha

I'm also happy to meet you girls. Lots we can learn from each other. Good to be here.

*Giggle*

I would have taken it as a compliment too.

Back when I was younger and worked in a stable I wore flannel shirts, jeans and workboots, gloves to protect my hands and my hair stuffed up under a hat. From behind I was often mistaken for a guy, especially when I was working on repairs with the tractors. It was always amusing to turn around and see the look on people's faces as it dawned on them they had just been talking to a chick and not a guy.

LoL Hawkwind!! Thanks for sharing. hehe

My good friend...one I owe many thanks for getting me started weight training. She uses a 'back' avatar as well and she has gotten mistaken plenty of times for a guy. Funny cause once you see her entire body/face...she is a total knock out! Very feminine and fit body. Guys (and girls) LoL

I look up to her and hope to one day accomplish what she has.

That is awesome D. With your determination you'll get there.

I would love to use a back pic as an avatar. Still have a way to go recovering my back though. It's getting there. It's been coming in the slowest...er no actually...I think there is a tie between my butt and my back. Both are being stubborn.

Your avatar is lovely Hawkwind.

I know what you mean about slow development. I'm trying really hard to get my quads to show up. I seem to be more hamstring dominant.

I finally got a home gym about 2 months ago. I didn't have any fancy equipment to really go heavy. All I had was a barbell, some db's...about 100lbs of iron plates and some plastic cement filled ones...and a chair. No bench or squat rack. LoL

I did squats with a 90lb barbell by doing a 'clean and press' onto my shoulders. Doing this for all sets and for all other exercises...like calf raises, step-ups, lunges, etc. It really helped develop my shoulders as well but, started to hurt my right shoulder to a point I had to take some time off to recuperate from the pain.

LoL

You'll gradually build those muscles up.

Oh man do I hear you! That is how I have to do my squats, but I injured my left shoulder somehow early this spring and had to go lighter on my squats...drove me nuts so I do some weeks with DBs other weeks with the BB. The next piece of equipment I need is a squat rack.
(Been trying to get the hubby to just build me two saw horses at the correct height for me to rest my bar ... he's been so grumpy about my training of late that he 'doesn't hear' my request.)

I started out years ago with just dumbbells. Then a friend moved and gave me her bench and barbell set. I've been adding equipment ever since!

I have a small homegym with my lat tower now...so the back is coming along better. Hammies and quads have been no problem, but they have always been one of my stonger areas. I used to have an awesome back from all the years of farm and stable work. Lost it when I get so sick with the lyme disease. Always a creation in the making aren't we?!

LoL I had the same deal going on with my Dh. Took me a year and a half to convince him of finally getting me a home gym. I think he's finally understanding the importance of weight lifting and how much it means to me.
(he should by now! LoL)

With my home gym I've had it for about 2 months and had no weight plates for it. It has an olympic bar so none of the weight plates I had fit it. I had to wait for extra $$ to come in before buying a set of weight plates. I got a good deal on them and an extra olympic bar to boot. LoL

So now I'm pretty much set.

I can work harder at building my quads now that I can stack the bar with heavier weights.

Sorry to hear about your illness. You will build up those muscles fast...good thing about "muscle memory".

Keep up the great work!

*Chuckle*
I never could convince my hubby to get me a small home gym. But a year ago he got a bonus right about the time of our anniversary...he made the mistake of asking, "Is there anything special you would like me to get you?"

I smiled real pretty and said, "I've had my eye on this home gym..." And he was stuck and knew it. No way out...Amy got her gym!

LOL Clever gal!!

My DH is scared to ask me what I want cause he knows he'll get a list of things...New gloves, protein powders, vitamin + supps. etc, etc, etc. LoL

I told him for xmas, bdays to just surprise me with weight lifting items.

That makes me really happy! hehe

If I'm happy...everyone is happy. LoL
