I just got done with my 2nd year of highschool track-Im a sprinter and I really need to put on some muscle to gain some power and some speed.Although I love lifting and I would really love getting into bodybuilding! Im about 119lbs right now and I need to gain at least 10 to 15 over the summer-Whats the first step? If theres anything I need to know before I get started on some hardcore lifting please let me know

I would meet with your track coach and the school's strength coach(ask any football player) and work out a plan that makes sense considering your goals. If you are already in good shape, I normally would reccomment a high weight/low rep program to pack on some muscle mass and a complete evaluation of your diet. But, if are still planning on running track next year, my advise my be adverse to your track goals. If you want to make a tranistion and get into bodybuilding, then let us know and we will gladly help you put together training and diet plans to meet those goals.

Seek out a trainer that deals specifically with track. READ all you can about the training. Read books published by great sprinters and see how they trained. Use the internet too. Talk to Sports Med Professionals and your physician to ensure you are doing the best training and the least amount of damage. I know this all sounds so vague but your question had broad possibilities. As shredder said, ask around but I would avoid most of the "football" types. Talk to running backs, wide recievers, and safeties.

I never suggested she discuss this with football players, just the strength/conditioning coach.
