Hi girls!
I thought I would post this here since us moms do the cooking for the kids..most of us anyway! Any ideas (fun) for the kiddies to eat more veggies? My daughter will only eat them in soups....I am so sick of making soup....lol Help they are eating all of my cottage cheese! LOL Someone told me to try "ants on a trail" for them. ( cream cheese filled celery stalks with raisins on top)...my daughter wont touch it but my son will lick the cream cheese and raisins out of it...lol |

I just have had to find veggies they like. Sometimes I can trick them, but that is rare. When I was a kid my mom would make cauliflower and tell me it was mashed potatoes to get me to eat it. Luckily mine love broccoli, salad greens, green beans, and carrots. Those are the favorites with my kiddos.

This sounds silly but may be an idea...
I've seen the infomercial for the magic bullet (kind of like a milkshake maker/blender). The people pushing the product were making fruit smoothies & throwing in the odd piece of cauliflour & brocolli to 'trick the kids'. It blends everthing so finely you can't see what's in it (although it would probably be a green smoothie and the kids may turn their noses up at it). Could be just a marketing ploy! |

Thanks for the ideas. I dont think I've ever made cauliflour for them. I'm always worried they dont get enough green veggies...
Making a shake is a great idea too! I know someone who has the magic bullet..it does work well.... I can trick my son with a can of V8 but that doesnt last too long...he would think its a can of pop and get a few gulps down...lol pop is a big NO NO in my house! |

I juice carrots and beetroot a few times a week. I also make them fresh orange juices.
As to veg, the tastiest way for them is quick chinese stir fried in oyster sauce (broccoli, carrots, mushroom). I also make them chow mein with mix veg and they love that. Spinach cooked in butter makes it so smooth and creamy they don't realise they are eating spinach. Some of the veg they don't particularly like, I give them smaller quantities but make sure they finish it otherwise they can't get up from the dinner table. Also, fresh fruits have nutrients like veg and kids eat fruits a lot easier than veg so I make sure they have fruits daily.

Hi Fit,
Great thread! I'm not sure how old your children are, but when my 2 Sons were little, they didn't want to eat Broccoli and such, and at that time in school, they were learning all about dinosaurs. So I took a piece of broccoli and stood it up, and started saying things like "Oh no, I'm a little tree, and here comes a GIANT dinosaur (part being played by each of my 2 Sons), I HOPE it doesn't bite my top off"... Next thing you know, my Sons (the 2 dinosaurs) have been eating veggies ever since! Hope that helps, Ben N |
