Hi,
Maybe someone can help me out here. I quit smoking in January and I feel really great. I've always smoked and I have always worked out with weights. The only thing is I have gained 12 lbs. I went from 130lbs to 142. I am 5"6 I've joined a gym and I'm lifting. 3 sets of everything 15 reps each set. I also do the treadmill 35 min at least 4 days a week. I do yoga at least 3x a week. My upper body is starting to shape up nicely but I am accumulating this little roll of fat around my waist line (when I sit it rolls over the top of my pants.) I can't seem to get rid of it. I've never been fat EVER I've always eaten anything I've wanted to. I'm really trying to put things into perspective. My age is 46 so maybe that has something to do with it also. Anyway maybe I just need help with a workout routine or maybe even DIET. I've never had a diet. I can't seem to get organized when I go to the gym I do the exact thing everyday. HELP |

Body for Life is a good introductory workout/diet thing. I personally had to modify the hell out of it because my main goal is to be a strong martial artist so I can't blow out in the gym and then expect to do well in training. Also, I try not to eat "made up" foods like Myoplex. I like to keep it natural and I think that helps my body stay in balance and metabolize fat better...that's just for me. Also, I need more cardio and more cardio variety than he prescribes.
Having said that, it is an awesome intro to working out and how to eat and train to look really awesome. Almost all of it can be found, both the food and the workouts, on the body for life website. Just remember, in the first 4-5 weeks, the changes take place underneath your fat and your muscles get more solid. Then your muscles eat your fat and boom presto, your tummy is gone. It takes patience. Let me know how it goes... Last edited by jiujitsugirl; 04-22-2006 at 07:28 PM. |

Thank you for responding. At this point I'll try anything. I am going to start monitoring my caloire intake and I'll let you know how it goes. I am going to look at that website jiujitsugirl suggested. Hopefully, there I can find what it is that I am in search of. Maybe this is part of the menopausal thingie! Who knows. A lot of the women I work with are going through that so maybe it's my turn. NOT if I can help it. Age gracefully but the fat has got to go!

Unfortunately I have no experience with fat burners! I've never really tried anything other than using green tea caps.
I have just this week started using sesamin. There are many products out there now with sesamin. I'm interested in it's ability to supposedly help with fat burning and because it is supposed to help prevent inflammation. I have fibromyalgia so that is rather important to me. If it helps me lose weight and I'm careful with my diet I'm hoping to convince my hubby to try it (he is terrible about his diet!). He has cholesterol problems and it sounds suitable for his needs also: • Speed up Fat loss • Reduce Fat gain even when eating extra calories. If you are bulking or just plain overeating, it can mean more muscle and less fat. • Improve insulin sensitivity and better sugar metabolism • Increase mitochondrial activity inside your cells, and therefore provide more energy production • Protect the liver • Decrease triglycerides • Provides anti-inflammatory actions, protecting the brain, blood vessels and body from damaging inflammation • Lower LDL (bad) cholesterol • Raise HDL (good) cholesterol • Increase vitamin E levels. Studies indicate that vitamin E not only protects the body from oxidation that can cause premature aging, but also can elevate and/or restore testosterone levels A link to some more information here on the board: Sesathin, Sesalean, Sesaslim???

btw- one of the first steps in getting your diet together is to look at water intake, most people in the US are chronically dehydrated which can severely affect metabolism.
reccomend 1 liter per 30-40lbs of body weight, toward the lower end if you have high protein diet |
