I second that theory! "the fat should just melt off".Why Not!!
Either way any advice is wanted/needed.even if i think i'm doing everything right,i could be wrong! my typical days schedule:and every meal is measured out to proper servings.and water, water, water, all day!and i am taking Ripped fuel EX supplements. Breakfast: 1 bowl of Healthy start cereal/fat free milk, and 1 cup of all natural fruit juice. Lunch: A small V8,and yogurt Snack: a balance/power bar then is my workout, which is: 30 min on the eliptical trainer;then it's 30 min circuit/resisants training.(but on weekends i add on 20 min on the bike, after all that)and every other day is abs.and only sundays off. after my workout is protein shake: Dinner: chicken/salmon/meat, small portion brown rice, veggie Snack:a piece of fruit HELP! And to top it all off,i am a mom so my day is always running, running! Last edited by lyndab1; 03-23-2006 at 01:32 PM. |

truly busting your butt at the gym and not cheating on what looks like a decent diet, I think you should be seeing results by now. I'll make a deal with you...if you keep a journal and write down what you eat (including calories) online and when you go to the gym and what you do there(including exertion rate---were you truly wiped out or just like kinda working hard?) I will watch it and write you what I think is going on...there's a place for diaries on the board. You probably wouldn't need to do it for too long before you found out what was going on...
send me a PM if you want to do it. |

I don't understand how you aren't losing, I lost a ton of fat in 3 months. I cheat left and right too. I actually found I have trouble eating enough. I eat a little more and weight drops off. Your calories may actually be to low with that diet and I don't see lots of protein in there.

if people aren't specific. I don't want to sound negative or anything, but usually, when I'm holding extra fat, it's that I am eating more calories than I say and working out less than I think and not being really honest with myself about it. I think usually people tend to hold fat because they are eating too much and not too little. You know, eating clean and then hitting the chocolate cake and saying, "oh, I deserve this, I went to the gym today." But really that's blowing the whole workout, at least the way I hit chocolate cake, it's blowing the whole workout....
By the way, lyndab1, I am totally not saying this is you at all....and I don't want to sound like I'm disrespecting your efforts at alll... I can't tell what might be going on with you because your post isn't soo specific...i'm just saying from what I've seen. I had this one friend who would do back to back spin classes and then eat like solid cheese and tatoes and wonder why????. It took me a long long time to figure out that I was drinking 400 calories in coffee a day and not noticing it....(2 cups, lots of cream and sugar) Like, if I ate that much ice cream, I'd notice it, but for some reason in my brain, coffee didn't count. I"m suspicious too...that you may in fact be too low in cals.... i sent you a PM (sorry not much time to respond today).
Whatever you do don't suddenly increase them LOL (trust me) you'll have nasty rebound. Increase slowly... start switching a few things like the cereal + juice in the morning to oatmeal (with maybe protein powder --mmm chocolate--- and a piece of fruit). Or cottage cheese. Or egg white omlettes and a piece of whole wheat toast (oatmeal is better). Add a snakc between beakfast and lunch. ANd lunch... that is an itsy bitsy lunch girl ;-P i'm amazed you can get through your workout. You can mix yogurt with your cottage cheese to up the protein. Throw in some oats for complex carbs (i love oats and will eat them at any carb meal LOL). Or have a chicken salad with some yams or brown rice or something. How close is your snack to your workout? I'll admit i'm not a huge fan of bars because i personally think they are overpriced and full of crap, and not a heck of a lot better than a chocolate bar (and chocolate bars taste SOO much better LOL). ONce and a while off-season i will have a zone-bar right before training because it's easily portable and i can train right after eating one and not feel sick. But try to limit processed foods as much as possible. PWO shake is good (this is a great time to have a wee bit of juice if you want). Dinner looks good. It looks low in fat too. Women need a higher amount of dietary fat than men....something about proper hormonal function (LOL as if we don't have enough hormone issues....). Sometimes your skin gets really try, hair looses it's luster---need more fat. Fat is good. Natural peanut butter, cold-oil blends that have all your omega's in them (just don't cook iwth it). If you are training hard, not consuming enough cals, and piling fat burners on top of that....and still not losing weight...something is shutting down. Maybe your metabolism is shifting into survival mode, your CNS is burnt out, too much cortisol is floating around in your system...If that is the case, work up to more calories slowly (again, can't emphasize this enough!!) otherwise you'll pile some weight on and then that will really send you into a downward spiral. HOw are your sleeping habits? Do you sleep well? Are you cranky and stressed? (believe it or not, these are largely diet-related). Sorry again i'm at work and just wanted to throw up a few things that crossed my mind glancing at your post.... |

I think it could be either way....either her diet is too low in cals/ fats/ proteins, or......it's some sneaky chocolate cake that's not making it's way onto her post..........for me, I didn't lose fat for a long time, and kept thinking I was eating a certain way, but when I actually wrote down and counted calories, I was eating sooo much more than I thought, consistently. I mean there were days when I was getting well over 3500 calories, like well over, and I thought I was on a V8 fast. But once I wrote it down, I just reigned in the dessert, and it was almost overnight that I lost weight
Again, I really don't want to sound like I'm advocating a low calorie diet. I think the ZigZag diet post in the nutrition forum is a really smart idea. For myself, I eat more carbs in the morning, and less in the evening. In fact, here, I'll post my diet...it's worked for me and it might help someone else. Meal 1 1 egg 1/2 cup of dry oatmeal cooked with water 1/2 grapefruit 1 teaspoon cod liver oil frozen veggies, stir fried in water, in a wok (this is my lowest protein meal and if it's too low for your taste, add a scoop of protein powder... it's been fine for me so...) Meal 2 Myoplex shake (I think this is crap too, I don't like fake food, but it's easy and it's got a lot of protein... and after that first low protein meal, I need it...blah blah blah) apple Meal 3 black beans 1/3 cup brown rice 1/2 cup soy meat 1 serving 1/2 tortilla Meal 4 protein powder 1 cup skim milk raw cashews 1 oz Meal 5 salmon 4 oz big big salad with fat free organic dressing and 5 olives and 2 tbsp sunflower seeds Extra meal This is totally random and doesn't have to do with bodybuilding. I eat a slice of Ezekial bread, 1/2 tsp honey, 1/2 teaspoon butter, because I think it helps with my creativity, and it's actually got some protein, and I dig honey (okay, I know, it's superstitious) but if you're not a writer and superstitious, this meal is cottage cheese and a nice apple with cinamon and splenda. Okay, it's been good for me to measure and weigh, and write...that's all I'm saying. |

jiujistugirl, that is an excellent post--- and yeah I totally agree about hidden/accidental calories!!! LOL. Not insinuating anything, lyndab1. But yes, sometimes we are actually unaware of many consumed calories. Drinking pop is a major culprit among many people. So is "nibbling" on things while cooking, preparing food or grabbing a handful as you walking past the peanut/candy jar, adding goodies to your coffee, etc.

thanks for all the advice. i've been doing alittle bit of research, and went through a bunch of tests and stuff, and turns out that i've got an underactive thyriod, which has been keeping my metabolism on slow mo... and rather than losing i've been maintaining.i guess this is a big problem in my family!
But now i've started therapy replacement, and also my calorie intake was to low. so i'm not giving up yet!! |

One question I have; How often are you eating? 4-6 small meals a day if you are working out that hard. Also remember that your weight did not just appear overnight so it won't disappear either. Read all you can about the exercises your doing, how you are eating, calories IN vs. calories OUT.
