Yep. Diet is a bit crucial. I can workout all I want, but if I am not concentrating on the right food, my body will just bulk up... Not cut up. I try to cut my carbs for 2 weeks, just to readjust myself and then bring them back into my diet (but of course good carbs)... Post her diet, etc...

Bump to everyone who mentioned the diet.
Also, her 1 hour of cardio has got to go. Get her doing HIIT, or another high intensity workout, for 20-30 minutes 3-4 days a week.

Well first off she just turned 30, so of course right off the bat she feels like it's almost the end of the world, but I keep telling her that it's no big deal it's just number.
Height 5'5" Weight not to sure but maybe around 185-190 Type of cardio. Alternate days from Bike, Tread, Eliptical, stairclimber. Diet is a big issue for her, but I try and push her to eat right. The diet looks like this Morning: Slimfast Shake, 1 Banana Mid Morning: Some Grapes or Almonds Lunch: Some Tuna, Or grilled Chicked Salad Mid Afternoon: Protein Bar, Maybe some Cottage Chesse Dinner: Is usaully are heavy meal. Depending on the day it could be some Grilled Chicken Breast, Baked Potatoes, and some steamed vegs. She tries to stay away from the heavy carbs late in the evening as much as possible. The ironic thing about all this is that she happens to be a GP so sometimes she tries to self diagnose herself. Which of course is all part of the mental block. |

I've been very into counting calories lately...I eat really clean a lot but I tend to go over on the cals some times...resulting in a nice layer of ickiness over my muscles....So when I cut back on the cals, I got results immediately (like two weeks.) I still eat carbs and fat, but I watch the overall calorie thing, and that has made all the difference. Because say she's eating that tuna with mayo...that's very different from eating it plain....or just how big is that big last meal? Ideally the last meal is smaller, but I really think calories in/calories out is the main deal.

Also, ditch the SlimFast shake and have her eat a real breakfast. It will be more beneficial to her.

As for a good breakfast...it could be anything... an omelett with fresh veggies, scrambled eggs, some oatmeal (if she likes it), a home-made egg mcmuffin (english muffin, egg, 1 slice of cheese), even cereal (like Basic 4 or Heart Smart). One of my favorite breakfasts is an omelett with fresh green peppers, some softened onions (heated in the microwave till they're soft and opaque), broccoli and some cheese, plus a slice of dry toast and sometimes a banana or an apple. Ok now I'm drooling..lol I know people will come here and say stay away from the cereal and carbs and yadda yadda yadda, but honestly, they're nothing to be afraid of. The most important thing is moderation and watching the calorie intake. I've been a calorie counter for a long time, and it hasn't failed me yet. Also, make sure she is drinking lots of water everyday.

That's exactly what I told her, that safe weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. It may not seem alot but in reality in 6 months that turns into 30-40 pounds which is almost close to her goal. |

What would be the ideal calorie intake????? ( any help would be great, cause for some reason it makes more sense for her to read it or hear it from another women, as oposed from me. ) Still dont understand that, and I probably never will ![]() |

As for her caloric intake, it really depends on what she does everyday. If she's more sedentary, her intake will be on the low side (but never, ever less than 1200 cals a day). If she's very active, then it'll be higher. For myself, I require like 2400 cals a day due to my activity level. But, I eat less (like around 1800 or so), so I am burning more than I'm taking in, which of course results in weight loss...well...usually anyway. lol So that's why I suggested The Fitness Hub. Once she sees what her requirements are, then you guys can work on a meal plan. I know its frustrating. I didn't really like the idea of counting calories when I first started, but after seeing the results I didn't mind it so much anymore.

Weight loss is not a fun ride, but when you can see and feel the changes, even if they are small sometimes, it's definitely worth it.
