Default calcium?

any of you girls know much about calcium? i figure us women especially when we get older we need more right? I was wondering if just a multi is fine..i know it also depends on my diet as well but does a woman in her 30's need to supplement more of it?

I dont know what we are supposed to have as far as calcium goes but I do use it as a good reason to use 1 cup 1% milk in my protien shakes instead of water.
and have a half a cup with my lunch.

I read somewhere, that women between 25-50 need about 1000 mg of calcium daily to maintain bone development. I usually drink Carb Countdown lo fat milk twice a day and I also eat alot of brocolli, which is a good source of calcium. I guess you can check on the internet for more information.

Got milk?

This was brought to my attention during my Anat&Phys class.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/02/16/news/calcium.php
http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/02/15/calcium.bones.ap/
THis study was done on postmenopausal women in there 50's to there 70's.

As you age, calcium is not absorbed as easy and will give you little to no benefits.

Im not a chick but I thought you ladies might want to read this if you havnt done so already.

Thats an interesting study. For me I think I d rather be safe that sorry.

Something that crossed my mind as I was reading. Obviously most of us in this forum make a healthy lifestyle a priority.
Feeble bones are also a result of poor nutrition and lack of exercise. So I guess we have a leg up to start.

Once a woman is about 30, she can no longer store calcium in her bones, so it is important to recieve everyday the required amount and Vit. D to help it absorb. Any time you don't recieve the calcium you need, it is depleted from your bones, and that calcium can no longer be replaced.
I take my entire daily calcium requirement by multi V & Tums. Also drink lots of water to avoid stones (kidney, glands, etc.) caused by calcium.

Hope everything works out
