Airborne Lawsuit Settlement: 23.3 Million for False Advertising

Summary: There is no proof that the popular Airborne assists the health of an individual beyond the effect of a placebo (as with practically every nutritional supplement on the market). Airborne has been sued for false advertising and this week the company has agreed to settle the lawsuit and pay $23.3 million. Airborne will soon offer refunds to the people who believed in the product.

Suspicion arose when the clinical tests for Airborne were released. Basically, it was a non-scientific study where 2 dudes ran some tests. No scientists or doctors helped out. Turns out if you tout medical cures you need proof somewhere that isn't your cousin and his friend in the shed fixing the numbers.

“There’s no credible evidence that what’s in Airborne can prevent colds or protect you from a germy environment,” said CSPI senior nutritionist David Schardt, who reviewed Airborne’s claims. “Airborne is basically an overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that’s been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed.”

I ran article on this out this morning and taped it to my roomie's door. He swears by airborne and I've always told him its a piece of ****.

Well, those supplement companies can pull it off as long as they have one genetic freak in their testing group. If one person has freakish gains, they can legally make their claims by adding a tiny footnote saying "results will vary."

Interestingly true point you make. Have you heard of the theory circulating now that by a certain time, the FDA will begin regulating nutritional supplements Gill?

Oh yea, that has been going around since 2006. Ultimately, the FDA is an economic machine like any other governement organization. The more companies that are forced to lobby to them to get their product approved is more free revenue and lush vacations for certain black tie executives.

The FDA would like to have control over any and everything that humans put on or in their bodies.

Solid avatar btw. You and I have similar body types except your traps are more pronounced. Have you ever seen the documentary "Sweet Misery, A Poisoned World"? It has to do with the FDA Apartame Conspiracy--they pretty much pimped themselves out to Searle. It's about an hour long, I believe you can find it on YouTube. That's just one of the many ways the FDA has attained the name the Federal Death Association for itself. The FDA is just another by-product of the political system that was originally created with good intentions. The love of money will turn people against their own, even themselves--it's a shame.

I've never seen the doc but I'll definitely be watching it; however, I'm fully aware of the aspartame issue and is another reason that I absolutely despise Rumsfield. The guy is an absolute snake. If his shenanighans at Searle would of been made more public, I guarentee nobody would of trusted him with national security any further than they can throw him.

Anyhow, yes, that's me in my avi. I would say I'm about 10% but I got measured some time ago so I could be off. Now that I'm look at your avi closely, I can see why you would bring up bodyfat. Not like you're that much higher in BF from me but you can notice a difference. Either way, don't let that get you down my friend, you're doing good. I've read a few of your posts regarding your current physical goals and what you're doing to achieve them and you're on the right track my friend. Keep it up! Do you have a log or maybe your training regimen listed somewhere on this board? I would like to have a view of that (out of curiosity).

I'm not going to hijack your thread but I'll answer briefly. I'm going to finish out my cutting and then start my diet/exercise log on my bulking cycle since that is far more technical (in my opinion). I definitely still have lower belly and butt fat hanging on for dear life, but I think that within 2 more months I can shave it down.

I find it really funny when stuff like this happens. I just imagine loaded business men just feeling smug because they are making a fortune from selling nothing. Coke a Cola got busted in the uk for selling bottled water under a different company name. It turned out they where selling bottled tap water to the masses. There was a bit of an up roar but i just thought good on them, thats genious and wish i had though of it to be honest.
