Default Workout at 5:00am. When should I take whey protein and should I still have breakfast?

Hello all, I'm new here. I just had a quick question. I'm about 5'6 140lbs from 165lbs about a yr ago, and I just started taking whey protein. I'm in pretty good shape and am looking to tone up and lose my midsection fat. Now I work out at 5am every morning and am wondering when I should take Whey. Should I still take it before and after my 5am workout? and should I still have breakfast afterwards? I'm looking to lose the rest of the flab in my midsection and then bulk up a bit but not too much. Thanks for your feedback!

-Marc

I would suggest food at least an hour before your workout. If that is not feasible, down a shake and hit the gym. Follow up your workout with a good, clean meal withing 45 minutes of working out.

i have been known to get up and have some tea then go straight into training, then have my breakfast after,as you are looking to train early maybe this will work for you? but be careful of training on an empty stomach for some reason i got away with it.

I would have casein or long lasting shake before bed, get up workout, whey shake afterwards with come fruit in it, than breakfast an hour later if its within your time constraints in the morning.

i also work out at 5 am. what i do, is i mix up a shake before bed comprised of skim milk, oats and whey. i'll wake up around 3:30 and chug it down real fast, then go back to bed. i wake up, hit the gym, then come home to another shake, this time consisting of skim milk, oats, whey, honey and nesquick.

before i'm slammed for what's in my pwo shake, i don't get to actually eat breakfast until another 2 hours or so after my workout. the oats are in there to hold me over a bit until i can cook up some beans at work, and the honey is in there due to my allergy problems and it helps me take less of a sugar crash from the nesquick.

before i mixed up the pre-bed shake, i used to wake up in the middle of the night and cook up some oatmeal and take it with some whey. the problem with this is that it took too long and i'd fully wake up. with the shake, i just wake up to go to the bathroom, chug the shake, and i'm still able to stay half asleep and jump right back into bed.

i tried just going right to the gym with no calories before, but it just doesn't work. i have to eat before i hit the gym or i can't finish my workout. hitting the gym first thing in the morning is awesome, but if you don't have the energy running in your system when you get there it's hard to accomplish what you want to get done.
