There are 3 basic categories of body types:

endomorph

ectomorph

mesomorph

It is important to note that there are no individuals that are 100% endomorph, ectomorph or mesomorph. Each of us displays a mixture of body type characteristics although one body type usually dominates.

Endomorph Body Types are often characterised with big bones, round face, large trunk and thighs and a naturally high degree of body fat, especially around the midsection. Endomorphs usually struggle to control their weight although it may simply mean more determination is needed for an endomorph to lose as much weight as a mesomorph.

Mesomorph Body Types are characterised with broad shoulders, narrow waist, naturally large muscles and fast metabolism due to the amount of lean muscle. For men a mesomorph looks like a natural muscle man with a heavy, hard and athletic physique.

Ectomorph Body Types are characterised with a thin, linear appearance. They often possess narrow waist, hips and shoulders. The ectomorph also has a low body fat percentage. An Ectomorph body type may be considered lucky to some people because their linear appearance and ultra fast metabolism enables the ectomorph to stay slim even if they eat well, however the downfall is ectomorphs lack shape due to their low muscle weight. Lean muscle weight is what gives us that shapely figure.

haha

i'd say im somewhere between ecto/mesmo...im very lean but at the same time im pretty much all lean muscle...i dont have much body fat...and i dont have trouble gaining lean muscle when i lift religiously

i think the body type idea certainly has its educational purposes, but I think with dedication, hard work, and a proper diet, body type doesnt matter much for making gains in lifts or muscle mass. It's all about the time you're willing to put in.

Just judging from the pics I've seen you don't have the endo body. Think Mary Lou Retton, Mariah Carey, Oprah, Roseanne. Often powerfully built, appearing stocky with big bone structure.

I'm Meso-Ecto myself.

That's the thing...looks can be deceiving.
I'm not small boned or anything like that at.
But, I don't have a lot of body fat.
And I can build lean muscle fairly easily.

I mean, I don't have a "large trunk" like the description, but I honestly think that the place that I hold the most weight is my midsection...and that's what it says in the description for endo.

Who knows what I am...I'm lost.

Hmmm....midsection looks fine from here I think it's more about the body type than the way we gain, or keep muscle and fat. Those are secondary. Endo's are stocky, not necessarily fat though. More of a power build.

LOL...OK, so I'm not an endomorph then, we've ruled that out.
