Question What can an old guy do to build strength?

I'm a 48 year old newbie who has just joined on.

I started lifting and cardio faithfully from January 1 until now and have lost 25
lbs. and gone down 2 pant sizes, (thank you, Lord!) I am now wearing the same waist size I last wore in college. I eat 6 times a day and get up at 5 a.m. to do 45 minutes of cardio every morning.

My problem and frustration is in trying to build strength. I have only been able to bench 105 lbs. for the last month or so and can't seem to get more than 30 lb. dumbbells lifted for curls or presses. Does anyone out there have some suggestions on how to increase strength?

I'd appreciate any advice.

what does your routine look like now, along with the weights you are lifting?? Are you lifting heavy weights in the rep range of 4-6? Or are you doing more 'high' reps?

As hrpiii suggests, post up your routine so we can better determine what your doing. You might throw in what you normal diet looks like. Post up a typical day, be brutally honest here, so that we can get an idea of your intake.

I'm with hrpiii and narcsarge. It's probably something very simple that can be adjusted in your training or diet.

BTW...I moved this out of general chat and into training chat for you.
