Question BB Bent Over Rows...

I know BB bent over rows is one of the best back exercises you can do and I just want to make sure I am doing it right. I don't have a video of me doing it, just wanted to know if I could get a step by step process of doing a BB bent row or a video showing how it is done.

When you bent over and ready to perform a rep do you want to keep your body I guess "stiff" as possible and little motion with the body or have motion with the body during the rep?>>I hope that made sense. lol

Thanks for the help.

I do them a variaty of ways. One is bentover 90 degrees touching the bar just below my chest(solar plexis I believe its called) or even a little lower. Another is about a 45 degree angle or a little bit more, and the bar kind rides the top of my thighs and hits me near my belly button(if I remember correctly). Reverse your grip, and these are called yates rows. I was forced to doing yates rows towards the end of last year cuz back pumps were driving me crazy. You can really move alot of weight with yates rows as compared to the 90 degree bend. My hand spacing is pretty wide, except of yates they are close.

As far as my body movement. I try to keep it as still as possible. Much easier on yates, but with 90 degrees, it so much harder, I find I will cheat the bar up and move a little(not good).

Search youtube, you'll find all kinds of videos. Some with poor form, and others with perfect form. You'll come to realize the difference.

I have seen BBing videos of Cutler and Coleman and both those guys do the 40 degree and angle and use a little bit of momentum to cheat the weight up. These guys are pulling 405 lbs tho.

Is it bad to use a little bit of momentum? I mean, you should be able to still make gains this way.

i do mine like this. i have a slight bend in my knees, palms are facedown and just wider than shoulder width grip. the bar comes up just above my bellytbutton. you could also do this with you palms facing up.

Thanks for all the help guys. Seems to be a lot of different ways you can do BB bent rows, i'll switch it up every once in a while. I just really need to work on getting a bigger back.

There is, but the true way, that is the traditional form of a Bent over row, is with back 90 degrees bent over parallel to the floor and pull the bar up to your abdomen.

Similiar to a Military press, in which a true Military press is done standing.
If you sit, it's called a shoulder press....

Not to discredit Yates rows or other versions as I am sure they all will work wonders, just wanted to point out what a true row is.
I in fact did ONLY Yates rows forever and only within last year have I done 90 degrees

I thought military presses were done in front of your head, and shoulder presses were done behind your head. I just call standing military presses - ab rippers.

Ab rippers? LOL they do work the core too

Could be right about shoulder presses? Maybe they are called overhead presses?? Cant remember, but seated is not a true Military press.
But then again, over time, things become known as the common practice.
Like saying "I need to get a Zerox copy"...Some people actually say
this instead of saying "photocopy". Maybe it's the same with military press.

But I know the true military press is done standing and BB path is in front

Found this off the net

BARBELL MILITARY PRESS

This exercise takes its name from the upright stance many of us encountered while standing in formation serving in the military. The body is kept tall and straight throughout the entirety of the movement.

Yeah I pulled, more like tore, my upper left abdominal last year while doing standing military. I heard a "pop", followed by some nice pain.

I'd hate to have that one happen - I bet you were screwed on alot of lifts huh?

I used to do them standing when I was a teenager.

Wasnt as bad as you'd think, but there were certain movements that were completely out of the question. I think it took like 2 weeks to feel ok, a month to feel good. Dont recall exactly. I'd have to check my log around september/october '06
