Thanks guys - I need to write one about intensity and overload. Something too few people seem to grasp.

*In best Jim Mora Sr. voice...*
Intensity? You're talking about...intensity!? Don't talk to me about...intensity?!

Boyd, I would agree with you that few grasp the concept of intensity, no matter what amount of weight they work with. It's my opinion only that you can be a newb benching 50 and have the same intensity as an experienced lifter benching 400. It's about how you go about your workout moreso than how much weight you're moving...just my opinion anyhow.

Oh yeah, there are way too many people that train with the intensity of a snail. They may crank out one burnout set or whatever, but they can't go in and consistently beat their intensity from the previous workout. I see TOO many guys doing the same weights on the same exercises for long periods of time and their bodies aren't changing. Actually MOST people in MOST gyms aren't changing. They don't make progress over time. They don't consistently get stronger or bigger, they just stay the same. Why waste your time?

Yep, I say that all the time...Intensity is one of the key ingredients.

Too many guys train with very low intensity, but for longer periods and think they are busting some ass in the gym because they lift for 1.5 hours TO 2 HOURS

Less sets, more intensity!!!!

I agree, most people I know hardly ever focus on getting stronger each workout. If I do npt beat what I did weight wise or rep wise each week I feel disappointed until the following week.

Oh my Lord Thank you!!! I find it amazing how some people can make a routine and have 20 sets for chest or 15 sets for arms (the list goes on) and really think they're achieving anything. Of course, let's not get it twisted folks. There's people that know their body well enough to realize that their results are bred by high volume workouts. Plus, there's those that can't get enough of the juice and well... we'll just leave it at that. They can do things like train 2x a day and lift for 3 hours LOL

For the most part, I was never a fan of too many sets. You can gain from hitting a muscle group by lifting heavy and hard with 8-10 sets down to as little as 4-6. Everyone is different but most of the time, it's the beginners and newcomers that you see stacking up all the sets with tons of useless exercises - that's a violation

I'm all out of reps for you but if I could, I'd rep you. I think that's the mentality everyone should have and it's the same way I feel. Beating the iron not letting the iron beat you.

Great discussion folks

what about more intensity for 1.5 - 2 hours. That's the way I hit it. Did some leg work last night. I could tell I hit them pretty good, almost fell over 3-4 times while bending over to get my water bottle. That's when I know I'm pushing myself.

Then of course crawling upstairs to bed... but that's because my walker was damaged from holding 300lbs from the squats.

when I first read dick-up, I thought you meant pressing boyd over your head for 5 reps. But I think you are now referring to something else.
