Default beginners misconceptions

All Beginners Listen!!

I recently enticed one of my friends to start lifting. He wants to get big. However, I cannot convey the importance of the three aspects to gain muscle.

Sleep. Eat. Lift.

He loads up on sups, (gakic, lukic, cell tech hardcore etc) but refuses to see the folly of his ways with eating and sleeping. He isn't gaining much and works out hard.

For those new guys please dont waste your time lifting hard and ruin it by eating crap. You got to give your body building material and time to use it(sleep). Eat a bunch. Not just mcdonalds double quarter pounders and fries. Chicken and rice/ tuna/ eegs/ turkey/ steaks/ sweet potatoes/ vegies/ etc.
try eating this stuff 6 times a day for two weeks and see yourself blow up like your on roids.

this may be a pointless stupid posts but its sad to see people not realize the importance of this for a year or two.

Very true post.

This is a good reason to chime in. I have been seeing a lot of posts on here with "kids" as I call them, 15-16 years old wanting to stack all kind of supplements at this age. All kinds of creatine, fat burners, PH's, etc. Its quite disturbing to be honest. These kids are still growing and there is no need to take this stuff when there have been no long-term studies on these products when taken by kids at this age. They have no idea what they could be doing to thier body in the long run.

I classify this is a beginner's problem too due to thier age. You are right, they think these supplements are magic potions and pills and dont stop to think, its diet, training, and rest. Its mind boggling. Bodybuilding 101 should be taken around here...Diet, Training and rest emphasized. Supplements next.

I was always dead against supplements being regulated but seeing these numerous posts over time about kids taking this and stacking that, Im beginning to see a light on the other side, maybe they should all be regulated for kids under 18.

Oh well, Im off the soap box but I felt this was as good a place and time to mention this.

I rep'd ya for that one, Nite.

It is indeed a disturbing trend to see kids 15, 16 years old wanting to stack all kinds of stuff. The short-term gain of these "potions" aren't worth the potential long-term damage they could be causing themselves, a risk yet unknown.

Learning the fundamentals of good weight-training from the start...diet, rest, and routine...will never steer you wrong.

Unfortunately this thread will not stop the 'kids' asking for the best supp that will give them "the fastest results possible that will add lots of lean muscle mass & no bf - steroid like results"

Hyped up advertising sure does have a lot to answer for

You are right there. Advertising is very misleading. They have all these "juiced-up" pros selling them. They have the quotes like, Jay Cutler relies on this for his gains. I hope the majority can see through this madness but there are unfortunately a lot of young, naive people who dont and think thats how they are going to get big.

Sad really. But a person should still do some research and ask questions to other people in the know...

Great post!

My 2 cents: Supps are a waste of money... period. I lifted for about a year, never adhering to a proper diet...once I began eating correctly I made more gains in 2 months than one whole year.

uhh....lol

but yeh it is all about advertisement and how you market your product. I doubt half of those bodybuilders have touched what they are in the picture for. And for the stuff that makes you get cut and gain muscle. all they do is pay some bodybuilder money to sit on his ass and do nothing while eating a lot of food, then take a pic, then have him start working out agian and take another pic. WHAM! he used Supercut3000 to get ripped.

I suppose we shoul let peopel live and learn. most new people that begin lifting and take the supplement stuff grow because of newbie gains and they think that the supp is working. then all the sudden....OMG i am not growing anymore! maybe cause i suck at knowing wtf im doing.

I was originalyl one of those kids that thought i would get big taking stuff. i never did take anything though because i didnt have any money.

Right now im trying to eat how I should eat and workout hard. I just recently started "eating" the last couple months. I have made more gain in these last few months then I did from when i started lifting last school year. Its all because I know what the hell im doing now more. I BY NO MEANS kNOW EVERYTHING OR PROBABLY EVEN HALF OF WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW.. btu I know a lot more no then i did before and a lot of other peopel out there. One day i just woke up and realized what had to be done. what im doing is not working. what needs to change? I would lift for a coupel months and never see a change. I would weigh the same ( or sometimes less ) the most i gained was 3 pounds once. I would just be doing the same weights. never going up really. maybe 5-10 pounds here and there. but no wi have gained all over and gained weight in the double digits. I now say forget iso exercises for right now. I have been doing all compound mostly. Squat, deads, bench, BB rows and have gotten stronger. my arms are bigger from the deads and rows then any Bb curl did for me. ( i dont consider my self big at all) my legs are getting stronger and bigger then any leg ext. did for me. I have a friend taking all this stuff. we were about exactly the same size and strength 3 months ago. I am starting to leave him behind.

I know that probably a year from now i will look back and say i didnt know what i was doing right now. ok im done i just had a rant and im not sure if any of it reads to make sense cause im not going to proof read it. have a nice day. and now im goign to go do some work for school and get what needs to be done, done. then research more and lifting csuse i still dont know all there is to know. I dont really know crap.

This almost belongs in the bodybuilding bible.

Though I wouldn't call every supp a total waste of money. Just 95% of them are and the other 5% are only 5% of 80% diet, 15% gym (don't fight me on the numbers, I'm not married to them).

Just want to add, the original post is gold. In fact my family told me I was on roids after doing diet.

lol. You guys are kind of looking at it wrong, if a new guy is doing it wrong he aint purposely doing it wrong. He is NEW and he hasnt a clue were to start most probably, there are endless myths and people out there telling you that there way is the only way, and its hard to decide. I know how now looking back i should have listening to you guys and eaten right and trained right but you just get too caught up. i guess there is nothing we can do because everyone trys to tell people like that , that they have learnt threw experience and that clean proper deit and sleep and train is the best way but when they see someone lik jay cutler on the front of their product there gunna choose him over us really.

It's amazing to me the way that people think that it is easy to get big (not fat). I have a cousin who is a junior in high school and was asking me for some advice on lifting. He is a soccer player, very tall and SKINNY and has never lifted a weight in his life. I was in the middle of giving him some pointers and he stops me to say "well, I don't want to get too bulky from doing this stuff". I about fell down in amazement. Like you could just "get big" like that without trying and busting your a$$. Like it could just accidently happen over night. I tried to explain to him that it would take a complete change in lifestyle for a very long time before he would ever get too bulky. I don't think he believes me. If it were that easy everyone would be in great shape. AMAZING!!!

P.S.
Sorry. I just had to share

i eat a lot of crap, or whenever i do have something to eat- it's crap. Dollar menu...
i wish i could eat as clean as i should but eating enough is more of a priority to me. Whenever i decide to go on a "cut", i'll starting eating clean.

well I think a lot of ya'll took me wrong.

I wasn't just talking about eating clean and not using sups. All I was saying is that is was frustrating for me to see one of my boys working out really hard and spending hundreds (literally) on supps - I was trying to emphasize the FACT that these sups only work with Fuel.
Fuel is lots of good food -
Taking a butt load of supps and not eating or sleeping right is like going out and buying a freaking ferarri and then not putting gas in it and wondering why you cant go fast.

(perhaps that was a stupid analogy)

Anyhow. I have to go eat now.

Well no wonder they're not working, they're sticking the supps in the wrong hole. Supps stands for supplements not suppositories!

J/K anyways reps to you on your original post. Food is so important not only to my growth but also to my performance in the gym!
