Hello All,
My overall goal is to be able to run 3 miles with an 8 min/mile pace while also weight training to gain muscle mass. My questions are: When to run / weight train and frequency of sessions. My current routine (not sure if this is the right way) is to have morning sessions 4 times a week. I start of by running for 30 minutes usually equaling 3 miles then I go to the weights. I have been steadily decreasing my run time to attain my 3 mile goal running time. Then I usually do two major muscle exercises with minor muscle exercises. Work out is about an hour and 15 min. Another question I have is, I have been doing this only for about 2 weeks or so I have been running much better and have been getting stronger and am wondering I this is the most efficent way to attain my goals? And can I achieve my cardio goal and gain muscle mass at the same time? I realize I can not have a lot of weight gain with my cardio workouts, however I would like to gain some muscle mass. Currently I am a fairly skinny guy (arms and legs skinny, midsection with extra weight) I am 23 5'11 175-80 lbs. I have no equipment limitations and I will work out as much as needed to attain my goal. The reason for the cardio goal is I am in the military and am looking to cross-train into a job that requires a 3 mile run time standard. So this is needed. If anyone has ideas to help it would be much appreciated. |
