Default When is it too much?

I'm a Marine and PT (Physical Training) is a way of life. I'm starting to get back into the gym but I'm wondering is PT getting in the way of gaining size. We Pt three days a week (Mon,Wed,Fri). I also workout on those days after pt. I'm often tired and can't do as much when I do get to the gym. If I go on the odd days (Tues,Thurs,Sat) then that means I would be working the same muscle groups five times a week. Should I continue going to the gym on same days as PT or try something new.

Going on the same day is okay but don't push it too hard. I do the same thing. If you have any trainers in the gym you could ask them too help you with finding a routine that won't have you over training. PT doesn't put on alot of mass. It really helps cut more than anything.

What is invovled in your PT? I'm assuming they run your arses into the ground right? If you get a good PT in during the day I wouldnt work out on the same day in the wieght room, when your in the weight room you need to focus and pull every ounce of energy out for the "last rep" so to speak.....That might be too much for you...and on top of that what are using to feed your body...supps....clean foods....? It'll all come into to play on how often you work out. IMO you cant workout every day or you'll never grow you need to find a happy meduim....post whats in your PT.

With your schedule and current fitness requirements you're already probably quite fit. What's your goal? I think getting a huge bodybuilder physique is going to be tough. If you just want to add a little size to what you already have then that shouldn't be a problem. Don't forget to eat - regardless of how you workout, you can't make something out of nothing. Gotta feed the machine so to speak.

hoorah...former marine here, so I know exactly what you mean. PT will shred your ass up. However, you do see buff marines as well. they key is to keep yourself in a positive nitrogen balance as well as a caloric surplus. It will be hard becuase as active as most marines are it means you will have to eat alot to 1)suport your active lifestyle and increased metabolism, and 2) create a caloric surplus to actually gain muscle.

you can do it though..many do.

i had a similar question also. im going to start football training over the summer and i plan to run and lift weights. i just dont know how to seperate them. this training will include agility, sprints, bleachers, sleds, and endurance all for my running day. i also have a regular push pull routine, but i was planning on changing. i was thinking about running one day and weight lifting the next, but like Toiwnz said, i would be working all muscles 5 times a week. doing them on the same day adds to fatigue.can anyone offer any suggestions???
