You should always be getting protein in after your workouts. |

You don't need to know his diet to assess after workout protein needs.
It is optimal for everyone to take in a shake after you workout. Necessary? No. Optimal? Yes. As far as the grams, just take in two scoops and move on. You won't get fat or slow your fat loss progress taking in two scoops of whey isolate after workout. |

He is referring to the set of standards people impose or follow strictly. "Get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight" or 1.5 or 2 or whatever else that is always being said. Hell, I dont ever count my protein, I just make sure I am eating sufficient amounts throughout the day. There is no need to see if I am at 1.5 or 1.8 grams, it's micro thinking that is just not needed. Last edited by BiggerGuns=LongerDrives; 03-07-2008 at 02:11 PM. |

Thats the point though, you WANT to be BIG. This guy is trying to cut, and an excess of protein can inhibit fat loss or even PROMOTE fat gain. So watching it is fairly important. Its not a HUGE deal, but if you want to optimize a cut, you need to watch all kinds of different aspects in your meal. and 1g per lb of weight is the MINIMUM you should get, and since your cutting Id do just as gill said, 1.5-1.8 maximum, and the 1g being minimum. Its simple math and will help you out. p.s. distribute your protein throughout your day as well. Theres only a certain amount of protein the body can process at once, so the more you eat in one sitting may not be the best idea. |

Just so you know, I am shedding fat too, or doing as what you'd describe as a "cut" . I have gone from 225 lbs and I'm now down to about 208 lbs. So your logic is wrong. I will continue to cut and I will do it by eating clean, good amounts of protein, no junk food, small bouts of cardio and as$ busting lifting sessions...Not by counting every calorie and protein gram that goes in my body. I guess I'll leave the over thinking to the next guy My point was there is no need to micro manage the hell out of things. Cutting, trying to get "big" (as you say) it doesnt matter, the guys who over calculate and get all in to the formula's are usually the smaller, less advanced or whatever term that you'd like to call them, they are usually the guys running in the back of the race so to speak. And in regards to your chicken breasts, it depends on how big your chicken breasts were and how far apart you spaced the meals. If you are like 135 lbs soak and wet, then yes, thats probably pretty good for you I myself eat at least 6 times and sometimes 7 times a day, each meal at least 30 grams of protein. I may eat upwards of 50 grams in a meal, but 30 is the amount I try to get at each meal. Other than that I dont count or add up anything and at the end of the day this seems to be fine as I keep progressing at a good rate. A simple basic formula's are often not simple basic formula's. . i agree with this. a couple of years ago i counted all my protein, calorie and water intake. really silly when i look back. now i just eat my 6 meals with foods high in protein, calories i dont even worry about anymore i know im getting enough and i just drink water all day long, sometimes a gallon a day sometimes 2 whatever. eat clean foods high in protein and drink water throughout the day. that's all you need to do. no counting required.

I did the same too when I first started. I think it's a natural response to wanting to do things right, so I dont discredit anyone for wanting to do things right, but eventually as you progress you will see that alot of things are not needed. |

You know I'm a big fan of yours, BGLD. Judging by pics and your join date - you have been at it awhile. If I was incorrect in assuming that, I meant no harm - only compliment by it.
I don't read labels anymore or plan my meals in exact proportions but I definitely did in the beginning. It helped me understand whats in the things I eat and helped keep me accountable. Its been about 5 months since I stopped doing that. Now, I just have a pretty general knowledge of nutrition and what is in most things so there is no need for me to micromanage. That isn't to say I don't try to hit rough ballpark numbers. Anyways, didn't want to turn this into tangent. Gave some advice and some people disagreed. C'est la vie. |
