It sounds like you are loading the creatine which is not necessary.
Taking it in the morning is ok but I feel the best time to take creatine is after a workout. Taking creatine after a workout will help replenish your creatine phosphate levels, your body absorbs nutrients the best after a workout, and the insulin spike from your post workout shake or meal will drive the creatine in your cells better.
As for mixing it with whey, that is fine.
Oh, and 5 grams post workout is a good dosage.
