Default Protein Bars vs. Shakes

I see there has been a major advancements in protein bars over the years. With that said my question is can I just eat protein bars verses drinking powder protein shakes?
Would the premixed shakes be a decent idea? I seen that there are quite a few out there. But they are pretty expensive.

Those things are so nasty.

What is the best way to go? Can I get same or similar results just eating the protein bars. I just want to have a nice build.

Im pretty slim. stand about 6 ft weigh about 175. I want to build muscle and get up to like 205 - 210. I want to have a Mike Bibby build or Gilbert Arenas Build *Those of you that watch basket ball...

Bars are typically included in a diet that is lacking. Eating a bar after workout (where you want a protein that will absorb fast) probably isn't the best idea. Taking a protein powder with water or some fruit juice - much better idea.

For a snack to get extra protein, carbs, calories, etc bars are the way to go. Typically they will be absorbed slower cause the body needs to break down a solid instead of a liquid.

SO what did you have in mind for substituting a bar over the powder?

Premixed shakes are a bad idea. Expensive!!!!!! BUY some protein powder n mix it yourself! With the protein powder, you can ALSO make your own protein bars (usually the ones i've made have tasted alot better than the store bought.) Not to mention cheaper too.

Not rocket science.

Well these are just supplements. As in something you supplement to what you already have, which should be a good balanced and high protein diet.

But the comparison of Whey protein powder v.s. protein bars is simple.
The powder is fast absorbing and digests more rapidly compared to bars.

Fast absorping protein is needed during times like post-workout or when you 1st wake in the morning as this is when you need to replenish your levels quickly. In this case, the powder is more optimal in terms of fast absorption. I say save your money and spend it on real food instead of the bars and such.
Get some Whey though for post workout and you are pretty much set

.

I get what you guys are saying about the protein shakes. So why not just make a regular milk shake with maybe some peanut butter. Does the body really need such high volumes of protein. 30 - 50 grams? Lets say I drink some Milk or have some creatine then eat a protein bar. There has to be a better way. Then to spend top dollar on this stuff, drink nasty shakes, and eat a ton of food. You guys are buff. Tell me the way. not saying theres a short cut but im sure you guys would say there are some things you would of done differently.

More protein = bigger gains. I use the bars because it is easier and conveinient? for me. If i had some bottle of milk or water at school and started pouring powder in it all the other kids would be like WTF is he doing lol. The bars may take a bit longer to digest but it works for me.

You can certainly make a home made shake, but it's hard to keep the carbs low and the sugar content low. Whey now days has virtually zero carbs or sugar in them and who says you have to spend top dollar on Whey?

Bro, I dont know where you live (I'm in California) because I pay $14.99 for a 2 lb tub of Whey protein and being that I only use it for post workout, it tends to last me like 6 weeks or something around there.
Hell, you can get some cheap Whey at WalMart for around $12 for a 2 lb tub

If you are buying the bars, they are $1.00 to $3.50 each right???
So tell me how this is cheaper?

I use both. If you are following a 4-6 meal diet, fixing a healthy meal that many times of day is difficult for busy individuals. I carry a Detour MRP bar with me to classes and work for that purpose. 30g of protein, healthy amount of carbs and fat, and a solid chunk of calories (~350). This allows me to stay on my game so my workout doesn't kill me when I get around to it.

I still drink a protein shake morning and afternoon though as well.
