Default Does pretein powder lose it's effectivness?

I was wondering if protein powder ever lost it's effectiveness? I bought a tub of ON Whey about a two years ago and only used a little of it. I am now trying to use it up before I go out and buy anymore. I got over half a tub left and now I wonder if it's even doing any good. I tried to find an expiration date, but couldn't.

Also, I am using a creatine powder that is equally as old. Does that become useless after a period of time too?

All supplements, including protein and creatine will deteriorate over time, and lose thier potency. If it had been unopened, sealed, and kept in a dry cool place it would have been ok.
However, since it has been opened and been 2 years, I personally would throw it out and buy new. Whey protein isnt that expensive.

Throw out the whey, KEEP THE TUBS!

This way, you can buy 10lbs or some huge size and split them into separate tubs.

My whey went bad after taking like 6 months to use it, but from constantly being opened and exposed to air, it smelled funky and went bad. So I keep all my tubs, but large portions and split them up to keep them fresh.

Its just food. Would you eat 2 year old food, especially after its been opened?

I went out and bought new protein powder... ON Gold Standard 100% Whey and it expires in 18 months. So I KNOW that my old stuff was beyond expiration, but food would go bad way before that.

Yeah, good decision lol. Throw that stuff away! You'd probably get sick if you took it.

How do you decide if your powder (creatine and protein specifically) go bad?

Creatine mostly will get chunky and flaky. Protein you can usually smell. Compare current date to expire date.
