Hey everyone. So I'm having a lot of difficulty finding a protein drink that doesn't upset my stomach. I was taking something called ProComplex which has 60 grams of protein per serving. The problem started about a month into taking it. I started having trouble keeping that stuff down and it felt like it was causing my esophagus to clot up and narrow. I don't know why this started happening, I was fine with drinking it for a full month before the pain came. I tried switching to a different flavor and that didn't change anything. I suffer from a hiatal hernia as well as acid reflux disease. I don't know if I'm lactose intolerant, but an employee at the vitamin store said I might be and that could be causing the problem. He also said it could be that its just too much of a protein intake. I cut it down and it still didn't help. He couldn't recommend any other protein for me which is why I'm posting in the forum. Can anyone here recommend a decent protein drink that might not cause me the pain I'm having with this one?

Are you sure you're no allergic to any of the ingredients? Try switching brands to see if that'll work.

I don't know what it is about whey, but I don't like it either. It could be the whey or maybe the large amount of protein. Have you tried cutting the servings in half and take them at different times? BTW, I'm lactose intolerant and it usually causes problems keeping stuff down the other end if you know what I mean. But lactose intolerance supplements or lactose helps. You could switch to soy or egg, maybe muscle milk. Those go down easy for me...

Hey everyone, thanks for your thoughts and advice on the matter. To answer your questions...
No, it wasn't past the expiration date. lol. Yes, I've tried switching brands of protein. Yes, I've tried reducing the amount of protein by only taking half the amount (30 grams). Again, the problem didn't start occurring until about a month and a half into taking it. I had already consumed a full jar and was half way through on a second until the pain and problem of keeping it down started occurring. The only way I can describe the pain is like this... Imagine drinking a glass of water or milk or anything. It stays down but if you try eating or drinking anything else the rest of the day, it won't go down; or it will but not for long. And you get that feeling of wanting to throw up but can't. I tried making myself throw it up and it was impossible. I was also over-producing saliva and spitting a lot. |

Try a whey isolate, like VPX Zero Carb. If other brands also cause this problem, try switching to a soy whey and see if you really are lactose intolerant.
