I carry a 1liter bottle of water with me and keep a bottle of Gatorade in my locker if I need a quick fix. I'm looking for something I can mix with my water for during my workout.

Yah... I usually just drink gatorade too but either before or after... Powerade is too sweet for me...

I got a sample packet of some drink when I ordered from a1supplements... I haven't tried it yet though... I think it is this... Looks overpriced....

I just drink water 90% of the time. However, if Im doing cardio after my weight training, I will drink a serving of Xtend (BCAA's) before I start my cardio.
But there is a lot of merit to drinking a carb/protein drink during your workout.

Gatorade is good. Its truely a decent product for hydration. Powerade blows. Who the hell puts high fructose corn syrup in a sports drink

Yes, This is what I do as well.

There should be no reason to worry about taking carbs during your workout. You need to carb up before your workout, not during.

Depends on a few factors for me (like when/what was my previous meal and how long I'm going to be working out) but gatorade + whey/bcaas have been a long time favorite for me.

I drink Performance during my workouts. It's not necessary to have some carbs during a workout but it definitely won't do anything but benefit you, especially if you're engaging in some endurance work and such. The fact that carbohydrates lead to more energy and a prolonged onset of fatigue has intrigued many athletes, nutritionists, and active people. This interest in gaining more energy has led to an increased demand in carbohydrate products.

Testing carboyhydrate products: carbohydrates and electrolytes

In order to prove that the Shaklee products do work as well as they claim to, Shaklee performs clinical studies. In one of these studies, Performance was tested.

Cyclists rode stationary bicycles at 70% VO2 max for two to three hours. Shaklee Performance, other carbohydrate-electrolyte prototypes, and water were given to the athletes at the rate of one liter per hour. Shaklee Performance maintained blood glucose levels significantly higher than water throughout the test period, while maintaining plasma volume equal to that of water. Shaklee Performance also maintained a higher plasma osmolality than water, helping balance thirst with fluid needs and supporting the osmotic drive to drink. It was also the best-tolerated of all the carbohydrate-electrolyte prototypes.

Maximizing endurance

Shaklee Performance helped maintain athletes* blood glucose levels for muscle energy and fluid levels for proper hydration. After more than three hours of vigorous cycling in the laboratory, during which time the cyclists consumed either Shaklee Performance or water, the speed was turned up even higher. At this sprint pace, Shaklee Performance drinkers endured for 33 minutes, while the water-only group lasted just two minutes.**

Gatorade, Powerade, etc. have the same concept as Performance in mind (sodium, electrolytes, etc.) except they have no specific formula or balanced ratio geared for a purpose. Studies show the product promotes the maintaining of blood-glucose levels for quick muscle energy and essential fluid for hydration.

Gatorade has the exact ratio of electrolytes and water that our bodies have.

Accelerade
Quote:
Why Accelerade is Better

Beyond hydration

During exercise, an athlete's body needs fluids. Period. That's why replenishing fluids during exercise is crucial — especially in the heat. When the body loses fluids through sweating, body temperature elevates and exercise performance drops. This isn't a good thing.
The most important function of a sports drink is to rehydrate. But a drained body also needs to restore energy and electrolytes. That's why so many athletes choose carbohydrate and electrolyte-rich sports drinks instead of water. Sodium is the primary electrolyte lost in sweat followed by potassium. That's why both are included in sports drinks. These electrolytes can serve to enhance flavor and encourage athletes to drink more. They also promote fluid retention. The addition of carbohydrates can delay fatigue during prolonged exercise and improve performance.
But, carbohydrates and electrolytes aren't the only thing an athlete's body needs. Along comes Accelerade — the first sports drink to contain carbohydrates and protein in a patented 4:1 ratio.
A ratio? Yes, a ratio.
The inclusion of just the right amount of protein in Accelerade facilitates rehydration by optimizing the absorption of fluid. In 2006, researchers at St. Cloud University demonstrated that consuming Accelerade following cycling exercise significantly enhanced rehydration by 15% compared to a conventional sports drink and 40% compared to water.
Taking endurance farther

Accelerade has been shown to help athletes increase their endurance.
In 2004, sports scientists at James Madison University asked trained cyclists to ride stationary bicycles to exhaustion while drinking either Accelerade or a conventional sports drink. The athletes drinking Accelerade were able to ride 29 percent longer than those drinking the conventional sports drink.
At the University of Texas, when Accelerade was compared to a conventional sports drink, it extended endurance up to 36 percent and up to 55 percent compared to water.

LOL - I love this thread. We have some people that are saying "I USE this" which implies user experience. Then we have people posting scientific studies and such. I guess there are haves and have nots.

For the record, I don't use anything while working out. However I would use something that I posted or make my own with some gatorade type stuff and some protein. Probably cheaper.

'Swhat I do. I snatch about 30g of sugar from Gatorade and throw in about 15g of whey + 15g BCAA and barely sip it. I usually don't even finish it, and just down it at the end.
