My little cousin has been asking me to look up some supplements for him. He works out well, pretty good diet and eating habits too, but the guy has hit a plateau and is now asking for some suggestions to change up his supplements.
I have no experience in purposely trying to gain weight or taking any supplements to do so, so can you guy help me out here? He is 20 years old, in good shape about 5'10" and weights around 147 at the moment. NOW FOR THE KICKER: He's asking what would be the best bet out of the products sold at GNC! yup, you read that right! Apparently he gets a really good discount there so to make it cheaper he wants whatever he can get from there. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance, Gubbar |

Tell him, just to get a good whey protein, multi-vitamins, and some fish oil. That would be all the supplements he needs at this time. Tell him to take most of his money and go to Marsh and buy a lot of food.
At 5'10, 147 lbs, that is thin. He needs to learn to eat properly. Food is one of the most anabolic substances you can put in your body. He needs to eat at least 5-6 meals a day. Tell him to read this link for a good starting point on how to eat properly. Calorie & Macronutrient Formulas

honestly he needs to stop that dieting cuase he's not going to build with that... he needs to eat!! or in other words he needs to increase his calorie intake by alot depending on how fast his matabolism is.. so what everyone said is a factor on what he needs to do.. i wonder if theres anything out there to slow skinny peoples metabolism down to gain weight?? hmmm...

thats just it though guys, this guy is like a bottomless pit! he does eat quite a bit, i dont understand how high the guy's metabolism could be!
somebody asked why im looking it up for him ... to answer that ... i'd rather help him make not so dumb choices rather than him feeling the need to do stupid or desparate things. i cant watch his every move, but that doesnt mean i cant try to help right? -= ) oh man, he's actually GAINED weight, back in january of 06 he weighed around 120-125! Just from whats available at GNC, I'm thinking he should try getting on cytogainer 3 times a day, and use their mega-man multivitamins. Plus he already has scifit 1500 KRE pills. I'll talk him into eating bigger meals and drink more water throughout the day. i'll also suggest no-xplode for a quick energy boost (he didnt like shock therapy, etc, but liked NO-xplode). I'm still open for any ideas/suggestions anybody has. *he HAS tried cytogainer twice before* he gained some weight both times, but he said he dropped most of the gained weight the 2nd time he took it Last edited by gubbar924; 06-13-2007 at 06:44 PM. |

im no nutritionalist, in fact im a small guy myself. But I know I dont gain because of an incosistent diet and/or workout. Traps posted a great comment in a thread relating to this, cant remeber which. He does'nt exactly need to eat bigger meals, he might? but he needs to eat more often. keep the body in an anobolic state. And he needs to be doing mass building exercises, namely=deadlift, squat, bench. Man, imo, all he needs is protein, a vitamin and food. At 147 i dont believe he's hit any kind of platue, his newbie gains may have stopped. And now it's time to be persistant and patient. my 2 cents.

no offense but every time someone asks for a weight gaining supplement 90% of the people say FOOD. maybe just give him the advice he wants, if he's asking for what to eat i understand, but hes asking for a supplement. i would suggest prolab n large, and if not maybe try making your own weight gainer by making a protein shake with some oats, milk, honey, icecream, or w.e else you want to add some calories to ur shake.

if hes already eating alot and not gaining...then tell him to eat MORE...i eat alot but when i start to see my gains subside i add more calories to my diet. so tell him to eat MORE...at 147 pounds, its not like his grocery bill will need to be outrageous to put on some weight notice how theres more threads in the supplement forum then any other lifting forum here? thats sad. all the 140 pound sticks need to stop worrying about supplements and start worrying about LIFTING AND EATING

he's not new to lifting, been doing it continuously for a couple of years atleast (longer if you count off and on). they're just naturally scrony, his older brother also used to be a stick (till he started drinking like a fish that is, lol) so i doubt last years gains were newbie gains. and this guy DOES eat ALOT, not always the healthiest diet, but not that bad either.
I've already told him about eating more, protein, creatine, and multivitamins, im tired of having to repeat the same things to him, he just wants more ideas at this point i think -= \ i'll try track his eating habits and diet better, see if i can find anything thanks for the input guys, much appreciated *actually now that i think about it, it might be his workouts, im not there to see whats goin on exactly, but knowing him, im betting he's not doing compound exercises enough* Last edited by gubbar924; 06-13-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

nite, he's pretty much like myself, cant stand sweet stuff so getting too many carbs from sugared stuff shouldnt be too big of a problem here. lol, breaded stuff, now thats a different story rjx, thanks for the suggestion, i'll make sure and let him know, i've been tryin to make sure he understand to eat clean and lean as well. |
