Default BCAA's

So I am 16, 6'1, and 185lbs. My usual stack consists of ON Chocolate Whey and a multivitamin. I was thinking of trying out some BCAA's but the most recommended Xtend isn't sold where I buy my whey. If someone could recommend BCAA's that can be purchased at Link Removed that would be great.

Just buy it somewhere else - why does it have to be from the same place you get your powder anyway?

HAHA NICE! but seriously, there are ridiculous amounts of places to buy stuff especially online. I just picked up ON (Optimum Nutrition) BCAA 1000 for $20 @ vitamin Shoppe. I cant wait for stuff in the mail. I am going to finish my TwinLab Aminos first and then start the ON BCAA one day later. The only problem is that it only has 1000mg (1g) of 3 of the aminos. How is this better than all of them in TwinLabs? I know it is more, and was the ON BCAA good $$$? I hope so cuz if not haha

why not get the bcaa's seperate? i remember reading about how the different amino acids will compete with each other inside the body, therefore it's better to use them seperatly than all together at the same time.

here is what musclesntx posted, he's a certified nutritionist i think

1. Limited amino factor.
-You have to have all essential aminos present to be in positive nitrogen balance, and guess what: the BCAAs are the aminos most often used for energy, thus, becoming the most limited. Supplementing with them keeps muscle stored leucine protected.

2. Leucine acts as an indicator amino.
-Since leucine is often so limited, your body will gauge the "fullness" (so to speak) of the essential aminos by the amount of leucine you have present. If it is a relatively high amount, then your body is more likely to be in a positive nitrogen balance.

3. The BCAAs have an insulin like effect on muscle growth.
-If you know what insulin does for growth, then this one is a no-brainer.

It's no coincidence that people seem to magically grow when they start taking whey protein (very high bcaa content relatively speaking). I believe you can optimize growth more by mega-dosing. Hell, I've taken people that have made no changes aside from replacing 160-240 calories with 40-60g of BCAA in their diet (and even better progress by just adding the bcaas). I've mentioned this before, but one football player (NFL) I was working with had been eating the EXACT same thing daily for about 3 months - the addition of BCAAs (50g per day) alone resulted in 9lbs of LBM in ONE month (this is an elite athlete, not some beginning Joe). Obviously, 50g per day is an extra 200 calories (6000 additional calories for an entire 30 days). Do the math - there was definitely a synergystic effect.

IMO, the best time to take them are pre and post-workout (I drink them during as well) and early morning/late evening. Taking 10g between every meal wouldn't be a bad idea as well.

Due to their competitiveness for absorption with other aminos (especially arginine), you may want to take them separately from other megadosed aminos.

This is probably my favorite subject nutrition-wise. I've written quite a bit about it in the past and would be glad to dig up some of my work. BCAAs are expensive, so it's a cost-benefit thing. IMO, they're a staple.

Xtend is too expensive for the amount of BCAAs I consume. I bought some of Dantes for a lot cheaper. It tastes horrible though, crystal light is your friend.

Are BCAAs Necessary?

I think it's safe to take them together if you're not megadosing. If you are megadosing then it be best to take them separate. I'm still trying to find the article he wrote on bcaa supplementation. He explained the effects they had. I've been thinking of mega dosing bcaa's.
