Default Creatine and the heart...

Hello guys and girls,

I know creatine is one of the most studied supplements of all time but there is one thing that has been floating aroud in my mind. I have used it before and loved it but I recently stopped because I scared myself. (I tend to do this)

Creatine makes you retain water in you muscle cells. This makes your muscles swell. Your heart is a muscle. A very important one at that.

Fluid retention or swelling around or in the heart = Not good.

Can someone give me some more detail into this? I wan't to start taking creatine again. It helps me with every aspect of lifting but I definately will not risk damaging my heart.

Thanks for your time,
-Aaron-

Thats why I posted this. I have done a lot of reading about the supplement but have never read anything about it's correlation with the heart.

Basic biology would lead you to believe creatine would make your heart swell up just like all your other muscles. Right?

The heart,or any internal organs for that matter, are not made of skeletal muscle. Creatine will have no effect on your heart.

As you all can see, I didn't do to well in biology either!

I looked up different musculatures of the human body and Papasmurf is correct. The heart and internal organs are completely different.
Thanks Guys!

Shouldnt adversly effect your heart, except for the possible increased blood pressure. There have been inconclusive studies done on creatine supplementation on heart conditions. Check out the creatine sticky. I posted a link to the mayo clinic studies done on patients with various conditions.

Here I found the post

Facts On Creatine
