Is there a reason you can't do any cardio?

Cardio is not always neccisary, but it will deffintitly help.

Just lift weight hard, your muscles will grow. But you gotta eat alot of protein. 1-2 per lb, and you need to sleep. Pretty simply. Lift, Eat, Sleep... Repeat. The three most important things for muscle growth.

Fat is just stored food, so you will prob get some if you bulk, but no biggie. Youl be less soft by just building up your muscles a lil with some hard lifting.

Short answer:

lift hard/heavy and give your body a reason to add new muscle. Then nourish it with lots of protein and carbs. You need to eat in excess of you daily caloric needs but if you lift half-assed and eat alot of food you will get fat.

I noted you said "I've just started going...", just out of curiosity how long?

It takes time to get some good results too...so just keep at it, and like these guys are saying, make sure your diet's in check and keep working hard. You'll get good results if you're patient and do it right.

I know, cuz that's what I need to tell myself too.

Good post Casey. Cardio is not always necessary. Weight lifting burns calories just as well, if not better, especially intense workouts (which is the only way your workouts should be )

I dont think you need 20 minutes to warm up. but as long as it isnt affecting your workout.
