Default Thanks Nite

Cheers Nite - I've been on the lookout for some decent objective info on creatine for a while. I'm not much a weight lifting type. I've played soccer all my life and in the last couple of years have done a little running. My ultimate goal is to do a few marathons but that's a couple of years down the line, probably when I stop playing football. In the last few months I've started doing some work with weights - light stuff, in the hope of toning and gaining definition. Towards the end of last year I went on a low carb, high protein regime in order to lose weight. I had a couple of niggling injuries which curtailed my soccer playing for close on 18 months and had gained alot of weight. I lost two about 30 lbs and now weigh approx 205lbs. I've never taken creatine but was thinking of giving it a go. As I've said though I do want to tone up and lose weight in the process. My diet, coupled initially with alot of 6 mile walks lost me weight around the lower half of my body in greater proportion to my midriff and shoulders. These are the areas I want to concentrate on. Can creatine help me - or will it's effects me minimal if I'm not working with heavy weights? At the moment I run 4 miles three or four nights a week with maybe a 7 mile run at the weekend (sorry about the mileage reference but I'm not from the USA!). After my runs I do maybe 40 mins of free weights for upper body and ab exercises. I'd really appreciate some advice.

ps...I had been doing some high instensity/interval training but got a little bored with it. Perversely, I enjoy getting out on those longer, what many would find, boring runs!

Many olympic athletes take creatine, and not just the weight lifters. Creatine would help with all exercises, including running.

some ways

The reality of the situation is that an increase in water weight from creatine isn't such a bad thing. In fact if that water weight happens to be intracellular fluid (which it often is) not only should that water weight lead to increased strength, but it should also lead to increased protein synthesis, increased muscle mass, and long term growth.

and

Many bodybuilders experience the pump during a workout session and equate the pump with muscular hypertrophy. Clearly, however, while the pump may be a mediator of muscular hypertrophy, and while the presence of the pump may increase the probability of muscular hypertrophy, it does not follow that the temporary size increases resulting from the pump will be translated into new and permanent muscle.

Muscular recovery does not always result in muscular hypertrophy or muscular hyperplasia and thus the degree to which the pump is an indicator of muscular hypertrophy is not known.

What Does Hypertrophy & Hyperplasia Mean?

Hypertophy is an increase in the size of a muscle or organ.

Hyperplasia is an increase in the number of cells in an organ or tissue.

Cell volumization, by contrast, is a better indicator of muscular hypertrophy. Cell volumization allows for an increase in ATP levels, and this increase in work capacity may result in an increase in the stimulation of muscle fibers. This stimulation may result in hypertrophy or hyperplasia.

An increase in work capacity and intensity will correspondingly trigger an increased demand for nutrients and vitamins. If the energy supply of your nutrition regimen matches or exceeds the energy you burn then you'll probably grow.

Cell volumization also results in cellular hydration and an increase in the delivery of nutrients to muscle tissue. An increase of available nutrients may result in an increase in protein synthesis as a response to intense exercise. Thus, cell-volumization is a much better indicator of muscular hypertrophy than the pump.

Supplements like creatine monohydrate and citruline malate are great for cellular volumization. If you want to grow I suggest that you give these two amazing supplements a try

also to note for everyone that even high protein diets and/or weight training itself will lead to creatinine in the body. even if you're not taking supplemental creatine at all.

Question Very informative...

I had a quick question about this whole thing. I just purchased EAS phosphagen. I was wondering if this product will help me to gain the lean muscle pounds I'm looking for, or if I should try something else. It uses creatine monohydrate in about 5gram doses. Any recomendations?

Thanks for the info Nite...

Wow, so I would recommend Ester Pump to you guys. Not only does it have Kre-Alkalyn Creatine and Arginine Ethyl Ester (AEE), but it also has Citrulline Milate. I kind would like feedback on the product anyway. I hope this belongs here.

I feel all types of creatine are good. They will assist you in your training. However, they wont magically put size on you. That comes from a solid diet along with your training.

John, I recommend trying the kre-alklayn creatine. The brand I have used is Sci-Fit.

I answered this earlier. Kre-alkalyn will assist you.
