Short answer: I don't think it matters much.
Long answer: I mix with grape gatorade. I buy a big can of the Gatorade powder. It'll make about 8 gallons for about $7.00. Pretty cheap. I fill up an empty 32 oz. Gatorade bottle. After my work out I'll drink it down a bit (about 1/3 of the way), dump in a couple scoops of protein, shake it up and chug the rest. I figure with 32 oz of Gatorade plus two scoops of protein I'll be getting about 65 grams of carbs (mostly sugar). That should be enough to cause the desired insulin spike and help with uptake. If I want more carbs, sometimes I'll chase it with a Coke.
