Default protein intake question

My goal for the next month is to lose some bodyfat, reading through the forums I should keep a high protein diet. I currently weigh 182 lbs. Question is should I take more than my body weight?
I'm taking 2 scoops, 4 servings a day.
One after breakfast; 1 hour before work-out; 30 minutes after work-out and before I go to bed.
Am I taking the right amount of protein? any feedback is well appreciated. THANKS!

1 gram per 1 pound of bodyweight at least. im assuming those scoops are about 30g each? wow that would be like 240g on powder alone i dont know if i can say that is too much but its definitely not too little

Yeah I that's what I'm also thinking but on the label it has 22g of protein so that would give me 176g of protein. I'm not sure if I should be following the amount per serving(30) or the grams of protein(22) it contains per serving?

it would be the amount of protein it contains 22 but the thing is if you are trying to lose fat then you have to consider the calories you are eating per day. you must burn more than you take in so increase exercise and decrease calories. all of those servings of protein powder have calories tacked on to them too so thats takes a chunk away from your alotted calories and protein shakes arent very filling. you're gonna get hungry.

^Fonz makes a good point; better be mixing those shakes with water, milk will add more calories.

I would usually eat something when I take protein; yogurt, fruits or something not too heavy. Thanks for info guys.

Hmm, should one be taking proteins even on their off days? and what's the recommended amount of carbs to take when trying to lose body fat AND gain muscle mass?

I take the same amount on off days also, is that correct? I'm not sure how much carbs i should be eating but I don't completely get rid of it. I usually eat 2 slices of wheat bread for breakfast and maybe a sandwich for lunch or something. I eat lots of fruits and veggies.

Hold up. Why so much powder. Thats alot of money to waste, when you should be able to get 180 grams of protein from food pretty easily. Heck, my dinner alone has around 70 grams of protein, and that is one of 6 meals. I am just saying, to save you money, and to do things without so many shakes, just get more of your protein from food. Then, however more you might need, supplement a shake or two into your diet. I just reserve my shakes for after my workout, and before bed sometimes (i add milk to slow absorption). Its just my opinion, but try to get more protein from food and less from shakes.

^^ thanks alot for that info. you're right, I wasn't counting in my food intake I do eat alot chicken and ham/turkey slices. I was doing the math and a 10lb bag of whey wouldn't even last me 2 weeks taking in that much servings!! I guess 2 scoops before and after workout should be perfect.

i agree that is too much protein from the shakes. i drink a muscle milk everyday as a "meal" and whey shake post work (workout days only) and i still get at least 200 grams of protien a day (i weigh 172). wmxmaximus is absolutely right. you should be able to get your body weight protein from food pretty easily.

Yeah, I'd rather save money and buy more chicken and such. definitely more cost effective than buying $50 10lbs bags every two weeks! Thanks alot for the info guys!!
