actually, it is and its been proven more than once. a quick search brings this up. there is more
Tipton KD, Elliott TA, Cree MG, Wolf SE, Sanford AP, Wolfe RR. Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2004 Dec;36(12):2073-81. Ingestion of casein and whey proteins result in muscle anabolism after resistance exercise. CONCLUSIONS:: Acute ingestion of both WH and CS after exercise resulted in similar increases in muscle protein net balance, resulting in net muscle protein synthesis despite different patterns of blood amino acid responses.

there is proof that casein or whey/casein is better than whey alone. or you could mix whey powder into a cup of milk. now please, no one scream milk isnt good after training. please do your research first

there have been studies done that show that digesting a whey/casein combo protein is better for longer term amino acid release.
think about it, a whey /casein combo protein is time release into your muscles feeding them over a span of hours as opposed to whey which isnt that long.. you can use milk, as long as its skim |

throughout the day you really dont want to use whey unless you are going to combine the whey protein with a complex carb to increase gastric emptying time..
but again, u still want that controlled release , constant protein release of amino acids if you can..it helps muscle growth better than just whey |
