abear,
my question to you is this..
what formulation of glutamine??

For instance, are these studies referring to regular L-glutamine with no other compounds?
There is this one glutamine product I have seen results from, but its not straight up glutamine either..
id be curious to see what particular compounds they are referring to

Red face damn i wrote to much

Okay, I don't want to get in this debate, I just want to post up that dates of each of these sources and/or studies should be posted. Abear is right in that there is a HUGE difference in animal studies and human studies. The dates of those studies should've be posted with them. Its kool, they are just a little old. And when I read "no significant difference", as opposed to say pro-hormones?? Thats right but in the studies there are some differences, just not a significant differences. There is also evidence of the stomach acids destroying glut in the stomach, and the Liver will excrete any excess glut. we have, right?

So if someone is acquiring enough glutamine from their regular diet there is no need for the supplement. What about during a cutting phase/cycle? Are they receiving enough amino acids ? And were there any studies done in sync with that theory or situation? I cant find one. I just think glutamine is better suited for that type of situation.

One of the studies concluded that short-term ingestion of glut. doesn't improve performance right? What about Long-Term? It makes me think of creatine and the loading phase, would it take a week or so of loading to actually saturate my muscles with glutamine? Or would my body excrete it before that would happen?

The world may never know.......

its been said (which means i cant back the statement up with anything) that just about all supplemental glutamine comes from the same supplier. so i would imagine it would have been this one or kind.

Both glutamate/glutamine and aspartate and oxidized by the gut before entering the systemic circulation. This is probably a good thing because they are both excititory amino acids in the brain (at NMDA receptors)

This whole glutamine is anti-catabolic "push" in the industry is based in part on studies comparing glutamine to glycine in burn patients (who uses glycine though?) . Other studies used IV showing benefits, but then later studies using IV showed no effect.

Personally I think the reason why ICU patients show a worse prognosis when glutamine levels drop has to do with falling tissue ATP levels more than anything else (synthesis of glutamine from ammonia waste is tied to ATP. So is breakdown).
