Does it matter if one takes Glutamine with water or grape juice? I'm off of Creatine for the next three weeks and have plenty of grape juice in my fridge so I've been taking my Glutamine with juice. Have I been wasting my Glutamine?

Default Glutamine and acne

I definitely, without a doubt, break out on my body when taking glutamine. I have tested this twice. After two days of mixing glutamine with creatine (Phosphagen HP), my back gets a bunch of acne. The acne stays the whole while I stay on glutamine. Once I cut out the glutamine but stay on creatine, the back pimples go away within two to three days. I've never had back acne before, until glutamine.

So yes, glutamine can cause acne in some people. I have only tried one brand though. I won't say what brand it is because that brand might work fine for you, but I will say it was one of the cheaper ones. I'm going to try another more expensive brand in a couple weeks or so, whenever I can make it to a Vitamin Shoppe and have money in my pocket - a rare combination these days.

Glutamine does help my recovery time and I feel like my muscles do grow faster when on it, but what's the point if I can't take my shirt off at the beach because my back is all polkadot pink?

Dammmn!!
My back's been covered for years don't worry about it, leave your shirt on

Oh and you should try having some glutamine, and yea you'll get acne, but maybe it's just an initial reaction?
Keep having it, for like a month, and for all you know the acne might go again.

Like some others have metioned, I too have noticed an increase in acne since starting Glut supplementation. I only started taking it about 2 weeks ago, and have had several breakouts since then. I think the the stuff works great though. In the 2 weeks since I've taken it, I've noticed some pretty good gains in muscle size as well as pump. I wonder if it's because glutamine raises testosterone. I'm a female, so I don't have much test, but maybe this is what's causing the acne breakout? Just a thought.

I m not sure glut is to blame for the acne. I know for a fact creatine has been reported to cause acne (due to dehydration) in numerous studies, but PURE and high quality glut is a hydrophobe amino-acid (in other words, does not retain water from your muscle&skin tissue) so I ll take a wild guess:

- u r using TOO much protein or dont drink enough water?
- u r using creatine and "" "" "" ""
- u had some acne issue b4, and got them worse by creatine and/or protein?

- (the worst case scenario) u r purchasing cheap "bulk" supplements, in which case u r asking for trouble, mister!! Not playing the wise guy. I ve been had myself! Got acne from a "no-brand" whey shake I HAD to use while working in Eastern Europe. Had the powder tested, and the supposedly 98% whey was 22%, with the rest being maltodextrine and UPO (unknown.powdery.objects) emulsifiers.

I'm confused, how can creatine cause dehydration and a cause you to retain water at the same time.. Is it possible to retain water (in the range of 3-5 lbs. ) and be dehydrated? I have never heard of creatine causing dehydration. Even if the statement is true, it causes dehydration...and you are drinking your gallon plus of water each day...how dehydrated are you really? Just some things that pop to mind.

Unfortunately, it's none of the above. I drink tons of water, I don't take creatine, I get good quality protein but don't consume too much (I barely meet my protein requirements for the day), and I've never had acne problems in my life. So, the only thing I can think of is the glutamine, which is a high quality pharmaceutical grade.

While FatBastard has a very good post, it doesn't apply i guess if you have a genuine reaction.
Everyone reacts differently to things. That's why some get cancer and some don't =)
Hmmmm!!! Ah well stay away from the stuff, you're not bulking are ya zibbler?! You don't really need much anyways, no big loss eh!

No, I'm not bulking but do want to put on some muscle and get rid of some flab. I think glutamine is the best supp. I've ever taken as far as being able to notice results. I recover much quicker from workouts and have virtually no DOMs at all after a heavy workout. So, the benefit outweigh the downside for me. I don't get severe acne, or I would definitely quit taking it. I just get 1 or 2 zits here and there. Mostly on my chin for some reason. Oh well. It's no big deal.

Default chewable glut

I dunno if this has been asked in this post or not, but is the chewable glut just as effective?

Creatine dehydration: Sorry for being so simplistic, I just hate being boring :-). U need to understand that our body is not one 200lb piece of meat, but rather a complex mechanism. In that respect, our skin's hydration is -partly- caused by the water-retention in the muscle. Creatine (again roughly speaking) allows muscle cells to grow by - thats right- drinking fluids from wherever they can get!! Which means, if u dont provide enough fluid via external intake (drinking water) they ll source it from other parts of your body. The most susceptible part to loose water is your skin! Hence the dehydration, which in many people (me included!) causes acne-like symptoms.

Of course Dave IS right! Each mans/woman body is unique, and reacts differently to training, diet and supplementation. I talk purely on the "rough science" side. Visiting a dermatologist would definitely help. I did a few years ago, and when she talked of de-hydration acne, my mind went back to reports on creatine causing dehdr, which I ve read about. Since I started increasing my water intake during creatine periods, I saw a huuuge difference.

Ok, Going to start Glut on Jan 5th for the first time, and need to know once and for all if this schedule is corrrect.

Heres what ive gathered from posts, let me know if this is good:

Workout Days
5g in morning
5g Before workout (how much time before?)
5g After workout (how much time after? Immediately?)
10g before bed

Non-Workout Days
10gs in morning
5gs at around the same time i workout on workout days.
10gs before bed

I only drink 2 shakes a day. One pre-workout and one post workout. And im also on Creatine, so should i mix the Creatine/glut/whey together in the pre and post shakes????

just glut before...and all 3 after is fine...but i would separate glut and creatine from whey, take your glut and creatine with a high GI rated drink, such as gatorade or grape juice...toget those sups into your system immediately, and then about 30 mins after that get your whey shake.

I use gtorade, ask dave on the grape juice. i take the folowwing

25-30 before workout
10-15 after workout
5-10 at night with whey shake

so anwhere from 40-55 per day.
pump is great...and i think i must contribute the small gains i am getting while cutting to the glut and protein both. I am curious to see what kinda gains i get when bulking....yeah, its a bit expensive, but i got a 1200 gram tub of glut for 49 bucks...plus doms are pretty much unheard of for me,. and i work the crap outta myself....so i think it is worth it. i started with 15 g's pre-workout, did that once, then went to 25, and on biceps and on leg days I OD on it....LOL, i love those muscles to get rock hard while working out....
