Default how do you know you are pushing yourself hard enough

When your body shuts down and says no more. I had a cool experience of the CNS shutdown doing deads last night. Now, in the past, when I'm really pushing myself, it's not uncommon to be a little light headed when you finish your lift, but this was something new (and pretty cool I thought...since I didn't get hurt or anything).

After working my way to the heavy stuff, I added more weight to see if I could pull it. After only moving it about 10"-11" off the floor, that was it, put it down. Then the CNS shutdown on me. My legs just went weak, and I went down on one knee, and grabbed the bar with both hands. It wasn't that "light headed feeling", it was a feeling that none of my nerves were firing to my muscles..AT ALL, they were like jello. My head was kind of wobbly, like a new born baby. I was able to balance myself by holding onto the bar, if I had let go, I would had been on the floor. It actually felt like my bones were shaking under my muscles, kind of hard to describe, as I had never ever had a feeling like that in the gym. It effected my body for the rest of the workout, as I just didn't feel 'right'. After a hot shower and some food, it really caught up to me, and I was wiped out.

Did I push myself last night.. hell yeah I did.... what did you do?

Default happend to me yesterday

yeah, I started with deads, after 30 mins of deads, including warm up sets, I was pulling heavy iron. My head felt light headed, and I had to hold on to the bar of the rack. I felt better after though I did another 30 mins of squats and lunges.

I had almost the same experience after doing squats. Barely racked the bar before I just went down on one knee and focused on the sweat dripping down my nose. I had no concept of time and when I got up I realized I had been kneeling there for at least 2 Metallica songs... which is a long ass time.

everyone else does also no biggie.

Guys, I know that feeling after squats, where your legs are like rubber, just exhausted, nothing left in them... Now imagine that across your chest, shoulders, traps, thights, arms, neck, etc.... that's what I'm talking about.

I'm still scared of the deadlift so going that far might be along time coming. Still testing my boundaries on how far and heavy I can go before losing form or busting my back again.

Is it weird that I'm a tad jealous though?

Dont be scared of the deadlift, its your friend and possibly the best movement you can do.

I've hurt myself twice doing deads. I want to give myself more time before doing real heavy deads since I want my form to be perfect and practised. That's the reason I'm scared of them.

Lol! I'm sure the conversation wouldn't turn into "Doing Deadlifts with incorrect form gives you AIDS, RIP."
