From my research, chicken is the least effected by this so if you had to choose, make sure you try to get beef products organic.
In general though, if you can afford it, get organic, otherwise it'll be fine. Start by getting veggies/fruits organically, then beef and milk prodcuts, then chicken, fish, etc.

For fish I am super lucky. I live in beautiful British Columbia, Canada and in the summer the fish run plenty. If you have ever seen any river fishing (salmon) on tv it was probably done in or around Terrace and Kitimat. Anyways my freezer will be full of fish in a few weeks, vacuumed sealed and ready to eat at any time of the year. FOR CHEAP!

Believe what you want, but most livestock in this country is packed hard with hormones to make them grow big and fast... The faster they're mature, the faster they can be sold and more can replace them. There's NO doubt in my mind that the amounts of hormones and sh!t in food is directly related to not only crazy cancers and diseases, but to the inane amount of food allergies that people come up with these days... |

I agree more than anything. I always buy organic when I can afford it.
My attempt is to give a ranking if you had to choose what to buy based on income and the largest effect it would have on you. It's not cheap to buy everything Organic (yet), so if you had to choose, thats what I've read/researched.

Factory farmed chickens would have to be the most drugged up creatures on the planet.
Apart from the copious amounts of steroids & antibiotics these broilers are subjected to, their living conditions aren't too flash & there's quite a bit of suffering going down. I'm staunch on animal rights in regards to quality of life, cruelty & welfare of all animals & some of the sh!t I've seen makes me sick. This is an interesting watch: Official Food, Inc. I'm like your sister. I buy 99% organic. Although I cannot independently prove it...yet, I swear all of those hormones & bull$hit they pump into animals is why we have high rates of cancer and all the other crap we suffering with. But my gma and gpa are both 88 and never ate organic anything in their life so who really knows.

I don't think that freedom to roam for the chickens sake is the posters main concern. Besides being free to roam there are usually less chemicals involved.

[quote=TheHorseman;661231]Really? Kind of funny - a guy that works from me used to be a chef and he talks about when they'd get the crates of chicken breasts, the breasts would be sometimes 2 feet wide. I grew up in the hills of Tennessee where fkrs have chickens in their yards - I've NEVER SEEN A FKN CHICKEN THAT BIG...

The organic chicken shouldn't have estrogen related hormones like stilbestrol.

the one thing I do know about chicken, which is scary is that there is arsenic in non organic chicken feed, that freaks me out, they do that to make the chicken get fatter, plus the chickens are more fat and less lean meat cause there stuck in a cage all day~erica
