Default Do you workout when you're sick?

I know some people do still, I have in the past. But I heard it prolongs you're recovery because instead of using energy for your immune system to recover you're using energy in the gym, which means you'll be sick longer

Last night I got a light sorethroat out of nowhere, woek up today and had the same thing, but just a little worse. I feel like I can still get a good workout in, I just have a little bit of a sore throat, and lightly congested, but I wanna be healthy this weekend. I hate skipping days in my routine, especially since I'm gonna be out of town this weekend and probably won't have time to get in a workout to make it up. I just don't know...

Do you guys still hit the gym when you're sick? Or just rest?

I think I remember reading something about your immune system lowering during weight lifting and etc but I would still work out. I'll normally workout through slight colds but if its something like a stomach bug, something seriously respitory, or something fatiguing like mono I'll pass on the workout. It ain't exactly advisable to squat when you are likely to pass out, hyperventilate, and/or sh!t your pants.

Depends on how sick I am. If I'm yessing out my no hole then squats would be a bad idea. If it's just the sniffles I'm still training.

I personally never do. If Im sick, I cant give 100% so Im not going to waste my time and possibly get even more sick or injured. A couple extra days of rest will only do your body good to get over what it has.

Once you are better, you will go back in the gym and be right back on track, possibly even stronger.

right on Nite... how many hints do you need from your body that you need rest and recovery?? I see people in the gym, sick, all the time... doing nothing but spreading germs and lifting at about 25%. Just because you are "in the gym" doesn't mean you are doing anything to improve yourself. And if missing 3-4 days lifting is going to reduce you to nothing.. well, you may need to pick a different hobby.

Its amazing how many people think their muscles are gonna fall off it they miss a week out of the gym. I never work out sick, its counterproductive in ever sense of the word.

These men speak the truth. To me, lifting when you're ill, lifting 5-6 days per week for any long amount of time, etc shows nothing but failure to listen to one's body, and someone who is limiting progress.

When you're sick? Why would you even want to?
I don't want to do anything when I'm sick.
Rest...get better, then workout.

I decided not to do it... figured I'd be better off resting

I was planning on hitting it today if I was feeling better, but I'm not really...

probably won't be able to get in there this weekend, hopefully I'll be back on Monday

I personally dont lift when I'm sick either, but in terms of making yourself sicker, the common cold is the only one you should even consider lifting when having. If it's the flu, you will only make your symptoms worse.

But in the end, like others have pointed to, it's a just a few days or a week off, no big deal
