That's retarded. What other form of protein is as quick absorbing and relatively inexpensive and easy as whey?
I know you weren't there but what other protein was he advocating? He might just be a "real food" fanatic. That's acceptable but people just starting to weight lifting might find it easier to chug a shake after hitting the gym than they might find cracking open a can of tuna and going to town. If he was advocating another type of protein, my bet is that he has some sort of deal (basically that he advocates this other protein over whey and some company pays him). There was some douche on youtube going on about this a while back with unsupported facts and skewed observations only to advocate some natural protein.

No protein powder? so basically this is the second guy I've heard of saying whey protein is not good I've heard and read of tons of people who support whey protein... so I'll go ahead and go with the masses here I agree with jayfive, he's either one fo these "all natural" guys which is cool if that's your thing... but don't try to tell everyone else that whey protein is a waste of money... and I'm also curious to know if he was pimping out some other product to use any other whey protein |

this guy is a real food fanatic....he was advocating eating a fish filet after lifting....and that is all good if you have the time to go home and cook fish or have the money to have it prepared and on hand....but most of us dont.....he also said that if you chug the shake then you are wasting it because your body can only absorb a little at a time....he said you should sip it over an hour or so....he also said this about water.....

Well we totally can't leave Casein out because it serves its purpose used along with whey. That being said when I took a masters level health class (required for my teaching credential) the teacher was against protein powders and pro food saying your body knows what you need and how to process it and by taking in too much protein you can cause organ damage. I'm guessing this was the same stance this other speaker was taking.

This part is very true, especially regarding water; if you just chug it down your body believes it getting more than it wants and so converts it to waste. |

I've worked with numerous pro athletes and let me state that most of them aren't where they are because of their infinite knowledge of nutrition and training...
A pro athlete endorsing something should carry absolutely NO water with anyone... Supplement, exercise or whatever. MOST pro athletes are where they are because of raw ability and opportunity. In most cases, they've always been great. Hell, kind of off-topic, but watch the vids of Clemens training with Brian McNamee - I'd kill my clients for squatting the way he is in those vids... Bottom line, show me someone who was physically nothing that became a beast or even a GOOD athlete, and I'll be much more impressed... Edit: with all of this being said, I can't tell you the last time I bought a primary whey product. I buy blends that contain many different types (casein, egg, whey, etc). People obsess over small things that don't make a huge difference in the long run anyway. Last edited by TheHorseman; 07-06-2009 at 07:44 AM. |

That is one man's opinion and it seems flawed to me. Whey is the best protein you could use post workout. It absorbs quickly and this is what you want after a training session. Also, fast absorbing proteins are known to stimulate protein synthesis better. This makes the post workout time even more critical.
As for protein damaging organs, simply not true. If your water intake is sufficient, no problems.
