Default Bad form?

So today was chest/tri/shoulder day. I lift at my school's weight room, so I catch a lot of the sports practices coming in after school as well as a few other kids that lift after school. Normally I just keep to myself and focus on what I am doing, but when I'm sitting there resting between sets I tend to look at what other people are doing. Today I see one of the kids there benching with some really bad form. No control of the weight whatsoever, just bouncing it off his chest. But what gets me is that he isn't much bigger than me by looks, but he was doing twice as many reps than I would with that weight. I guess somewhere down the line, my discipline will get me somewhere...right? Seems like he is cutting corners while still getting stronger. Just ranting I guess...

Well maybe if he slowed down and used proper form then he'd be at the same strength as you.

But sooner or later when you cut corners and dont use proper form, it will catch up to you...It's only a matter of time.

When i was a sophmore i was benching a measley 165, my friends who played football and what not were doing around 175-185. I used bodybuilding form and training/nutrition, they used drink beer and bounce weight and wear hollister to the gym to look big. Senior year i was benching 275 with perfect form and they were doing 185-225 with horrid form. Im sure you know the type

Haha. Yeah, thats pretty much the type. I'm by no means against drinking and I do occasionally, but I know these guys are out every weekend and sometimes weekdays drinking. Also hitting the curls everyday as well =p

I remember when I was in Washington, DC once for a national leadership conference. I'd say I am a pretty smart kid, since I got invited to represent my school, however I stuck out like a sore thumb. I played football and wrestled, worked out every day. I think a lot of those kids there got better grades than me, but I'll be damned if I couldn't beat them up! haha =p I remember over hearing a conversation about how at one kids high school the football players take creatine and how about its a steroid and how it "makes your heart pump so fast and messes you up so bad" He went on and on..and what was worse was people he was talking to were agreeing with him. I just kept to myself and laughed.

The difference between you and that kid is he's using his supporting muscle groups: front delts, side delts, and even lats. He's not stimulating his chest effectively so keep doing what you do and we'll see the significantly comparable progress the both of you have 6 months from now.
