Default What Shoes?

I didn't want to highjack any threads, so what shoes do you guys wear when deadlift or squat?

I wear cons or vans slip ons.

Whatever I've got on, generally some NB. I'll also lift without shoes on occassion, helps with keeping back on your heels - lotsa shoes tend to put you up on your toes.

Any good cross trainers will do you don't need any of those automx ''weightlifting/squat'' shoes/boots. I prefer New Balance or some fila to keep my feet planted firmly on the ground.

squat shoes arent necessary. but i think most would say a flat sole with minimal cushion is optimal for squat.

NB and thing like that usually have a cushion heel and ur weight will tend to go forward. Being flat footed will help you keep weight on your heels.

A lot of times when I finish my squat, on the way up my toes will pop off of the floor. This is the extreme case but you want almost not pressure on the balls of your feet.

So thats the problem with regular tennis shoes, not optimal for proper footing during a squat.

I have a pair of Reebok cross-trainers I use - but the thing is they're beat...probably 4+ years old and the cushioning's shot out of them pretty much. They work well - but also bear in mind my squats and deads aren't in the huge numbers (best DL 325, best squat 245 or so).

haha i know what you mean, the vans slip ons i wear are dirty, have been spray painted, and the rubber sole is starting to pull away from the canvas, but i love em to death

I squat with normal nike cross training shoes - although something that was more flat would probably be better. I deadlift with socks only.

Sometimes I also put some 5kg plates under my heels to balance myself as I have very poor flexation in my calves

I used to do that myself because i felt a better balance. Then, I learned I was squatting wrong because the plates under my heels would cause me to push through the toes and ball more than the heel. Since I have ditched the plate, I find that I can really push through my heal! Balance is no longer an issue for me. I think that someone first showed me to do squats using a plate under the heels and whenever I did it without, it just felt strange.

Bought a cheap set of Chuck Taylors specifically for squatting/DLs. Got them at payless for $14. They are some weird, ugly ass pattern, but who cares. They work.

haha yeah, dude i know what you mean, whatever works. i've gotten a lot of dirty looks at the gym, i don't know if it's because i wear slip ons, or because my shoes are so sh!tty looking that it's offensive.
