ok, so something I've been noticing lately is that some guys seem to rack up the weights beyond their capabilities and keep doing reps with about 30-40% of their full ROM. I'm not even talking about sets where you do a full rep then follow it by some variation of a half rep, or even doing reps in the style of doing 21's
now, am I missing something? is there any benefit to this? cuz im starting to see this more and more lately |

It boils down to ego, they really think others notice if they don't put that extra plate on or not. I have a hard enough time logging my own $hit I could care less to notice what they're lifting. Ego, ego, ego. |

That is why I said think. Maybe I should have put that in italics or bold.
It makes them feel like they are strong. If they paid attention to what they were doing instead of making sure someone noticed them, then they would actually be strong. Maybe. Pay attention to the ones you know are strong...they don't mess with anyone and mind their own business. They may chat up a few fellow serious folks, but bottom line is they get in, lift some heavy weights, and get out. They are not there to be seen. They are there to grow. |

It reminds me of the time I worked out with my cousin at his gym and I was curling with a 115 barbell and my cousin said to me
"Is that all you use for curls" My reply was "Yes, BUT watch how I do curls" and then I proceed to pump out strict curls, elbows pinned to my sides and my back perpinducular to the floor with no swaying or cheating involved, full stretch at the bottom end, etc..etc...BAM! Then I watch around the gym and see guys heaving up 150 lb BB curls using their thighs to push the bar up then they sway to get the moment going and they finish it with a backwards lean to complete the top half of the curl - bwhahahahahaha They'd only be using the 85 lb bar if they did it right!
