Default Bulking/Cutting Question

Guys,

I'm 1.5 months into a 6month bulk... My bulk period will be up in Feb. 2008...I'm using a MAX-OT program for my bulk...

My question is..how long do most people go through a bulk cycle? Then how long generally is your cutting cycle? do you base it all on how long it takes for you to acheive your goals?

Just as everyone's bodies and goals are different, so is the answer to these questions. It all really depends on what you are trying to do in comparison to where you are currently at. Some need to bulk till 2010, some just need to cut a tad bit of fat and some need to just maintain a clean diet, it really depends on the individual in question.....

Keep bulking until your either satisfied with your gains or can't deal with any extra fat you developed.

Go by what you see in the mirror, everyone is different. There is never a set number of time for bulking or cutting.

In Feb, look at yourself and ask what you want to do, add more size or cut away some fat?

can't you just bulk and cut at the same time?? weights + cardio + enough protein builds muscle and cardio burns the fat without losting muscle because your lifting.

why do people always talk about bulking then cutting as two different things done at 2 different times?

It's called a lean bulk...

Sorry, But just because your lifting weights that doesnt mean that while doing cardio you will not burn muscle.
Too much cardio will burn muscle no matter what you are doing!

And to speak on the whole "bulk/cut at same time" thing, you cannot bulk and cut at the same time no more than you can eat and sleep at the same time as they are two different methods that are totally contradictive of each other! Like saying you can get fat and get skinny at the same time, see, dont make much sense does it?

Bulk = To create a caloric surplus
Cut = To create a caloric decrease

Virus, thats not a lean bulk,
There is such a thing called a "clean bulk" but that has nothing to do with cutting. A clean bulk means that one eats in bulk amount, but only clean foods as opposed to a dirty bulk where one eats anything and everything in an attempt to gain weight. A clean bulk is usually done by one doubling up on their protein portions and eating good carbs, so 2 chicken breasts instead of one as an example. Basically with a clean bulk, you would be bulking, but with very minimal fat gains in the process.

Now, with all that all being said, you CAN manipulate your hormones thru efforts like carb cycling which WILL allow you to lose fat and actually gain some muscle at the same time...but carb cycling is not related to the typical bulking or cutting what so ever.

actually you can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.

doing sufficient cardio will burn off excess body fat.

as long as you are stimulating your muscles to grow by lifting weights and you are consuming sufficient protein then you will not lose muscle.

Wait, you are now changing the story.
I never said one cannot build muscle and lose fat simaltanously, I said that the typical bulking and cutting at the same time cannot be done and I stand by that.

Bulking is simply eating more calories than what you are used to eating.
Cutting is simply eating less calories or creating a calorie decrease through cardio.
So explain to me in detail how one can "bulk" and "cut" at the same time with these old school methods??? Again, we are talking about methods of "bulking" and "cutting" not gaining fat and losing muscle as they is a difference. Just because you bulk doesnt mean you will gain muscle and just because you are cutting doesnt guarantee you will lose fat.

I myself have cut fat and gained muscle at the same time, but not by your version bulking or cutting, I did it merely thru hormone manipulation thru carb cycling...BIG DIFFERENCE

Either way, gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time is very hard to do and in one direction or another you wont gain or lose as much as if you stuck to a Bulk or a Cut diet alone and seperate.

..

I think what he is trying to say... is that if you are "Bulking" then you aint "cutting" just by the nature of what you are trying to do...

But yes its completely possible to make strength gains while cutting... but if you say you are bulking then that typically means you are going for sheer size.

Thank you for clarifying, as I was a little confused too. I figured bulking was referring to add muscle size and not directly to increased calorie intake.

But now I see the light
