My worse training mistakes are pretty typical really, for a start my routines were extreme for even the most juiced up seasoned lifter, training 6 - 7 days a week with 30 plus sets per workout, nobody could accuse me of not having the heart to train hardcore thats for damn sure! Too much volume and wasted blood and guts is a reciepe for a year round plateau as we all know, also the risk of overtraining and ending up seriously ill.

Very good point PJ, yes, quite common for hardcore types to train this way, I know I have and the hardest part to realize was that "less is more"

I've made loads of mistakes along the journey
I'd say my biggest mistake was not training legs in the beginning
Another was the overtraining issue you mention
And of course, I have had 2 major injuries from improper warm up as I have torn my left trap and my right lat muscle that led to downtimes...the trap led me to start a 6 year layoff !!!

Mistakes are needed to understand the proper path, but hopefully there are a few people that will read this thread that can learn about the mistakes before making them for themselves

.

I failed to train my legs for the first year at least, although i think this was mainly to do with lack of squat rack as i only had a cheap bench, really huge mistake to neglect the legs which accounts for half the body.

forcing myself to run 3+miles a day because i thought the longer i ran the more fat i was burning. thats a pretty typical one i think. and never sticking to a solid routine. i was always doin different crap that i never settled into anything long enough to see if it worked. and lastly, completely avoiding squat and deadlift. i still dread squats lol. i seriously hate doing them.

Not paying attention to a twinge in my shoulder and keep working out, turning it into a type 2 separation.
