calories gotta go somewhere. You lose weight everywhere, you gain everywhere, simply put. Also depends on just how clean you're eating. What's your diet?

Do not bulk, it will only make you fat. You need to figure out how many calories you burn and just eat about 500 cal a day over that.

A caloric surplus (bulk) is exactly what you are asking him to do.

And you should clarify that statement as it's false.
I know plenty of people who are eating clean, but in bulk portions (aka "clean bulk") and they are getting bigger while staying lean.

I seem to take 3-4 steps forward and then 1-2 steps back and then repeat.
I went to a wedding last weekend and stayed up there camping and just ate every kind of meat you can think of and this week I have only eaten properly 1/2 the time. So all of a sudden I step on the scale today and BAM, I am 6 lbs heavier.

I was sort of shocked!!! I look bigger though, so not dissapointed 100%
But as of yesterday I am back on the wagon, no more falling off hopefully.
I need to finish my cut hopefully within the next 4-6 weeks!!!!!!!

I tend to think of that as just following an athletic diet. To many people out there, AKA everyone in a public gym, "Bulk" means simply eat as much as you can and accept that you will get fat, then cut later. In that sense, bulking is stupid.

But I would think that following an athletic diet would mean consuming just enough cals to support the muscle you have, not to consume an excess to gain more.
And By gaining muscle mass that doesnt always mean you will increase athletic performance either(refer to Bruce Lee and his logic on this)

To "gain", you must create a caloric surplus, aka "bulking".
It's your choice how you want to do this..."clean bulking" ...."dirty bulking" ....
It's a matter of supplying the body with "extra" calories to support more muscle growth.

Clean Bulking = Low carbs & low fats, but very High protein, clean foods like chicken, lean meat ...loads of meat. No sugar, no crap foods, no binge eating, no late night eating. This is a Lean muscle mass diet

Dirty Bulking = Eating everything under the sun to gain weight and not caring if the gains are more fat than muscle in the process

An example of a clean bulk meal would be

2-3 chicken breasts
Small side of sweet potatos
Side of asparagus or brocolli

Where a normal person would just eat 1 chicken breast and possibly more carbs

While clean bulking, should a fair amount of cardio be implemented to take care of excess fat?

No it is not the same thing. Eating to grow LBM is not bulking, traditionally bulking is eating far over your maintenance caloric intake.....so getting fat, then having to cut later on to drop that fat. I am saying eat enough to gain muscle while not adding any fat.

He did not mention a "clean" bulk, and if he did I would have answered accordingly.

I guess you have hard time comprehending what you read?

Let me repeat it.. "CREATING A CALORIC SURPLUS IS CALLED.. BULKING"

Maybe if you read that 10 times in a row, you might be able to comprehend it. Let me know when you got that one down.

I'm pretty sure Bateman is referring to the old school thought of bulking/cutting, which is as he says.......eating everything you can to gain as much LBM as possible (while gaining fat along with it) and then taking 3 months to cut the fat off. That is the way I took his post.

Traditional bulking/cutting IMO is a complete waste of time.
