Default What is the "pump"?

Probably a pretty silly question, but when people refer to longer pumps, or suffering from lower back pumps...what exactly does that mean?

Aw man, its when your back is super stiff and it will last for hours. Normally you lose the feeling of a hardcore pump almost immediatly after putting down the weight. When I do deads my back will get so pumped I cant bend backwards. And it will last like it for several hours.

What is the "muscle pump"?

Quote:
The muscle pump you feel when training is a result of blood actually being "trapped" in the muscles being worked. The muscle pump is certainly a good psychological boost during training and accompanies just about all resistance exercise. And as your muscles become larger so will the pump you get while you train. Now while this muscle pump is not really a bad thing, it is not necessarily an indicator of optimum muscle overload. As you progress in your development you will find that achieving a noticeable pump even during your warm-up sets to be much easier and more prominent. More muscle - more "trapped" blood - bigger pump.
Basically, nothing to make a big fuss about. It's just blood

Lower back pumps are generally associated with anabolic steroids. It can get so painfull that it hinders exercises that utilize those lower back muscles. I'm not too sure exactly what the issue is, whether its actually a pump, or some kind of joint issues. But I do know this. It hurts like a b*tch.

BTW, a pump is nothing more then your muscles filled up with blood and fluid, increasing the size and fullness of the muscle.

Theory has it that a fully pumped muuscle can help to stretch the muscle fascia, allowing the muscle to grow more easily.

It sound logical but I think it's just that! A theory! I don't think there's ever been any scientific experimentation on this. Were they?
