They do shrink and fade, mederma is the 'new' thing to try and use. Like someone else posted you need to moisturize to help prevent them to begin with. Vitamin E oil and coconut butter are what many pregnant woman use. But even with the best of care you can still get them.

nope, no remedy, other than cocobutter and moisturizing for prevention. Helps them fade in color a little.

As most of the responses have said there is no product that will get rid of them, there are lots of laser procedures being advertised but once you consult they really only offer means to minimize (the good Dr. can correct if I'm wrong)

I do know of one product which I have tried which was good in the sense it was water proof and offered good coverage it's called Dermablend it's used to cover scars, pigmentation problems, strech makes ect.

You can get it at most major department stores, if I recall correctly it's about $25 and its made by Flori Roberts they do cosmetics for people of color, there products come in a full spectrum of shades, you blend it in and set with powder, and go you can swim with it ect.

I gained 80 pounds when I was pregnant....Ha...Fatass...I know.
Anyway...I was freaked out about getting stretch marks, so I used to rub cocoa butter and vitamin E all over myself every day.
I'm not sure if that helped at all, or if it's just good genetics as far as elasticity in my skin, but I have NO - absolutely none - stretchmarks.
I lost all of my weight very quickly too....within a month I lost all 80 pounds.
So...are stretchmarks genetic, or does it have to do with how you take care of your skin?

No, there's no cream or medication to make it go away. It's a kind of scar tissue. Steroid cream will only make it worse.
maderma or mederma or whatever way u spell it,is a cream for stretch marks.

not sure if you missed where it said he was a dermatologist before his name. He is probably well aware of Mederma, Strivectin etc all the other miricle creams that don't work.

Default Take it from Me...

Everybody, it AIN'T what you eat. Period.

Cocoa butter will not prevent them. Period.

Herbs and lotions and potions will not make them go away. Period.

Cutting them out will get rid of them. This is true.

It's because of your connective tissue, and it's genetic. It's not your fault. It happens. I have *terrific* skin but *lousy* connective tissue. Nothing I can do about it.

I was a heavy adolescent, and my body at 13 looked a lot like my Mom's, and she'd had 5 children! I had stretchmarks in the same spots. I got used to it, sort of. But once I wasn't a fatty anymore, they started to really bug me. I had a tummytuck at the age of 32. I was so happy cause a lot of the marks were cut out! After that, while married, my weight went up 12 pounds and I noticed new stretch marks developed where the old ones had been. So for me keeping my body fat down to under 23% is a top priority. Keeping body fat down, and preventing it from fluctuating, will prevent new ones from forming.

BTW, I discussed this subject with a naturally gorgeous and fit female friend of mine who has had 4 children and doesn't look it. She said she was "lucky" that her pregnancies had not left her with marks, but her *sister* was just covered up with them and had only had 2 children. So even in the same families there will be differences.

Vitamen E, Coco butter, a good tan, and can get them surgically removed if you really want but I heard its very painful eventually they go away enough that it wont matter. Be religous about those creams though 2 or 3 times a day.

Good Luck

sounds like good stuff, i have noticed small red lines look like stretch marks at my arm joint, could be the start of some

Question Hey DOC!!!! =)

Hey Doc!!!! is it true that stretch marks can be removed by building more muscle??? coz the marks are made due to rapid loss of fat or mass in that particular area resulting to the so called stretch mark...so by growing muscle on that particular area that has marks on it will put back the normal skin smoothness just like before but now its not fat but muscle instead.....???? ?????

The Doc doesn't come around these parts no more .

To answer your question, you get stretch marks when the skin stretches - too much mass, too quickly under the skin & the skin doesn't have time to adjust.

It's like getting a shopping bag & stretching it - it thins out at certain places & won't go back into shape.

You don't get stretch marks from loss of fat or mass in an area - it's the complete opposite.

You also can't really get rid of stretch marks, you can help disguise them though.
