I had just finished stretching and jumped on to the first exercise of the day which happened to be seated leg press. I usually warm up with 100kg and then progress the next four sets from 120,130,140,150. Today I thought I would do it a little different.
I started warm up with 110kg's.

Then followed by 130 for two sets for 10.

A 140 set for 9.

Finally a 150 for 8.

Just as I released the pressure from my legs to set them on the floor it felt as if someone had split the top of my head open with an axe. Intense, and throbbing in time with my heart beat, pain on the cap of my skull.

This worried me quite a bit as I have never had this before. I have just worked my weight up to 150 and have not had this problem before. I never try and bottle up the pressure inside by allowing myself to exhale on the exercise also.

I took a good three minutes before moving on to the next exercise, despite the fact that the pain had not fully gone, again as soon as I started to feel the strain the pain throbbed back.

I thought **** it battle on.

I couldn’t I finished my three leg exercises and my shoulder press and by this time felt too Nauseous to go on.

I took a couple of Ibroprofen (sp) when I came out and half an hour later I’m grand.

I am hoping to finish my workout tonight at home.

It had occurred that It could have been BP related but I am nearing the end of week 4 and thought that If it was happening before then maybe I could link the two but it hasn’t.

Any ideas?

After much research, this is whats wrong:

"Benign exertional headache

Benign exertional headache is precipitated by any form of exercise. Subvarieties, such as "weight-lifters headache" are recognised.

Diagnostic Criteria:

A. Is specifically brought on by physical exercise.

B. Is bilateral, intense throbbing in nature at onset and may develop migrainous features, in those patients susceptible to migraine.

C. Lasts from 5 minutes to 24 hours.

D. Is prevented by avoiding excessive exertion, particularly in hot weather or at high altitued.

E. Is not associated wtih any systemic or intracranial disorder.

Treatment: Exertional headache is prevented in some patients by the ingestion of ergotamine tartrate, methysergide, propranolol or indomethacin before exercise."

Im going to take the rest of the weekend off and try again Monday. If its bad news then I could be out for two months. I willl go see my Doc too and see if he thinks I should get any further tests done.

Sometimes when you push weights the pressure just expands your blood vessels. This could be what you have experienced. Make sure you take deep breaths when exercising.

Pycnogenol or Grape Seed Extract are also great for lowering BP.

I don't know man...It would be one thing if he left for a reason...

Problem is that he made reference to some health/ BP issues and then just vanished...Sorta scary!
